Based on a comment below, the current episodes are not in the book. Apparently the fl comes for a large and wealthy merchant family that loved her and help her divorce her loser husband (who had many concubines) and crazy in-laws and helped her take back her dowry. Not sure if Shengyi exists in the novel. The fl does open a peony store but I don’t think she suffered like she is suffering in the drama. This is all based on the comments below. I have not read the book.

Maybe they will show it in flashbacks. I agree with you and was waiting for his reaction. Only for him to appear out of no where. What a letdown.

I’ll do you one up: have she even showed anyone genuine kindness? She killed the doctor because allegedly he took a peak at her without her permission? We can only guess what she meant by that, but regardless, that doesn’t justify killing him in cold blood.

I seriously cannot stand Chong Zhao! Everytime I see his face I get annoyed. Why he keep saying that she “had no choice before." She killed with glee and a bunch of innocent people unrelated to said plans. Did the doctor deserve to die? As far I could tell he wasn’t part of any plans yet she killed with such malice.
