Visually Stunning, Narratively Lost

The promotional poster gave me the impression this drama would follow the adventure of Wang Xiaoshi, Wen Rou, and Bai Choufei as a central trio. That was misleading—Wen Rou barely appears, while Su Mengzhen becomes the driving force of the story. The characters, plot, and conflicts felt like they existed primarily to showcase the idol cast rather than tell a coherent story. The world-building is muddled—I never understood who the sects were, why they were fighting, or what motivated anyone. The bloody fight scenes try to convince you the stakes are high, but without established stakes.

To be fair, the actors did what they could with what they were given. Baron Chen stood out as the only veteran presence who could elevate the material; the rest are idol actors doing their best with a poor script. The real problem is the creative team, which prioritized beautiful visuals and marketable faces over narrative substance. Heroes is a good-looking drama without a story. Visually looks stunning but fails to tell a story. Heroes 2022 is hollow spectacle with a misleading poster that only added to the frustration.

I finished this drama and still couldn't tell you what it was about. It's 5.5 for me.
