She knew it was an endless battle, and with her of personality, its understandable she didn’t want to keep dragging him down with her. Maybe letting him go was her way of saving him from more pain.
She broke off their engagement because she thought he was cheating, but if it turns out it was just a misunderstanding and he wasn’t unfaithful, the ex might still have an upper hand over the ML. The ex has an advantage because the FL might still have lingering feelings or unresolved issues from their past relationship.
