Been watching Chinese dramas since may, 2019.  With my slow pace I still feel I am a newcomer to this big world, where, even within my narrow range of interests, the dramas are shot quicker than I get to watch. I am mostly interested in fantazy genres like wuxia, xianxia and some historical shows. Tomb raiding is another category that China is reach for (very much unlike Western shows). I normally hate love stories, but (1) you can hardly find any cdrama without one and (2) I can get involved in some real good ones (but will critisize a lot while still keep watching). It is my strong belief as someone with counseling background that a good love story is not cinematic. It is happy and boring in essense. Nothing to tell stories about. Once love drama occurs - I cannot stop analyzing which issues brought the characters to it and what exactly they should work on  instead of making it another show.

Watching Cdramas is still a cultural experience into a strange world, with their own tropes and cultural scripts . A good fairy tale will always tell you a lot about the nation that has created it (even though it may be authored by someone specific). Cdramas are visually beautiful in the first place. I don't just watch, I drink the picture with my eyes, which further slows down my viewing pace, because I avoid being distracted by reading English subs and wait until the show is dubbed in my language, for the sheer pleasure of enjoying the picture.  I love that Cdramas are made a one-piece story, long enough to digest every bit, like 50-60 episodes, but still a one solid piece of composition, with proper beginning and ending, something Western shows badly lack. They normally finish on a cliffhanger, hoping that the ratings are sufficient to get approved for the next season.
