The govt is casting a wide net over all celebrities. All dramas and celebrities can be potentially impacted. Many actors and actresses have been guilty of doing these shady contracts to evade taxes so they can be relatively clean in their personal lives but still get caught up.

The thing is from the cast it appears none of the supporting characters make it into the future... so they are just tragedies with no HE.

This is a doomed kingdom. The empress dowager is mind numbingly stupid. You don't elect a crown prince just to check the Cui family's ascent. That is just incentivizing fratricide and factions to form in the government. And to fight ZSC who is no threat and does not care about palace politics? Why? They have enemies at every border, is she going to take up arms and keep them at bay? This is a great love story but you can't look too hard at the political plotting etc bc it was not written with much thought or logic. She should also have figured out by now that the emperor is the more malleable son so it is illogical to try to remove him for imprisoning her in the past to promote the very difficult to manage crown prince. I hope he kills her dead.

Yeah t is my one problem with his motive so far. He is loyal to his brother and is fighting to protect his legacy but those he fights for are unworthy.

It is a typical bittersweet xianxia ending. They end up guarding the sky net together for all eternity.

He said his decision was worthy; i.e. for a just cause. But he does not answer that he does not regret it. In fact, I interpret he answer as it is something that he regrets but it was for a cause bigger than love. And maybe he would not have done it so casually or with so much conviction had he known way back then that he would meet her. Nonetheless it is unambiguous if he had to do it again he would. So in short, he regrets but it was still worth it.

Don't worry, the harder they try to erase him, the more popular he will become. There is no better way to make someone unforgettable than to ban them.

Tencent is very motivated to air everything this year. The govt just banned all advertising for after school tutoring, one of their biggest sources of ad revenue. They need to make it up with ads on Immortality and other highly anticipated dramas. I can't predict whether more idols will get in trouble etc to cause this to be delayed into next year. All I know is Tencent WANTS badly to air this as PLANNED this year.

Even though China doesn't love the BL genre, it has now gotten to critical mass and it is an extension of China's soft power overseas. So while they want to "guide" or limit what can be seen on air, I don't think they want to get rid of it altogether. As for the censorship aspects, well China is actually a very diverse society and many Chinese citizens are Muslim. Content has to respect the beliefs of all cultures in China.

Yeah unfortunately I think it is easier said than done...
I have the full list of Tencent's planned dramas for 2H. Both SSS and Immortality are on there. My list is the one investors get, it doesn't always match what they talk about to viewers/the media. I have not followed the shooting schedule of SSS specifically so not sure when it got done but usually what the companies tell investors is much more reliable. Like I already knew weeks before airing that One and Only was most likely coming in August from iQiyi's disclosure. iQiyi plans to air Luoyang this year also.

Yeah I saw it but I don't remember where. It wasn't the only one, these issues are being actively discussed. With no mention of ZZH of course. If I see it I will send it to you - I have to go through all the Chinese news outlets everyday but if its not specifically related to something we own I just skim quickly and move on. But I will try to remember to forward anything I see to you.

Well BL is a bit of a frowned upon genre in China but as long as BL dramas are not overtly homosexual, they are not going to outright ban it. In fact at the moment, it is not in the direct crosshairs of the regulators, they are much more targeting the toxic fandom culture and idol actors. I think Gong Yu, iQiyi's CEO today said they will stop making idol content (ie. talent shows) for the next few years. So it is getting partially caught up in the broader morality drive and cleanup of all kinds of messy undesirable social values but it is not being specifically targeted or singled out. If anything, I suspect Tencent is more worried that if they release this it will fan the flames of "toxic idol fandom" and is pushing back the release rather than they are being prevented from airing it. That and they won't be allowed to actively promote it in this environment and they want to get their ad dollars worth of something this high budget. The problem also is Tencent has A LOT of dramas that are ready to launch. This one is on the riskier end of the spectrum so in this environment, they may choose to play it safe with something like say Sword Snow Stride instead.

I have heard both rumours but I don't believe either - YK already made its money many times over on SHL whether this airs or not won't change that. They are both in deep sh*t with the government on a whole laundry list of issues. Neither is going to risk getting into deeper trouble just to sabotage each other over these dramas. They are huge companies, even high budget dramas in the ~350-500mm RMB range are small potatoes for them. Many of the mid to senior management at both platforms are actually pretty friendly with each other even though they are competitors. Usually when these kinds of problems arise it is at the production company level, fan clubs and sometimes the actors themselves.

If this doesn't air it is because the government is trying to cleanup all kinds of bad behaviour in society, which unfortunately means all the LGBT stuff gets caught up in as well. But Tencent sounded quite confident that this is going to air this year just last week. I have been silent bc I knew August was never going to happen but I didn't want to rain on everyone's parade. My best guess is that this is more likely a late 4Q/Dec drama.

Yeah I think some of the backstory is not well written or explained. She is the only daughter in her generation and I guess it doesn't really matter whether she follows her father's surname or her mother's because in either case her sons don't carry on her family name.

I think it is very hastily explained but the gist of it is the father's family fell from favor/got in trouble so they kind of divorced or annulled the marriage to protect Shiyi. Her father is not dead I wonder if he will show up at some point.
