Both Tencent and iQiyi gained paying subscribers (~5mm each) in 2Q, which surprised the market since they both raised prices late last year/early this year. Idk Youku bc they don't publish their paying subs. I think given the huge absolute size of the losses they can easily make the case to just charge more, esp since the fandom/idol bans are going to hurt the advertising sponsorships. They are both starting to recognise it is better to charge more rather than do the VVIP since its so controversial. They have cheaper pricing models for rural - like lower resolution and some limited ads but I think the free to watch model is going to go away soon.

The plot has more holes than Swiss cheese tbh. The only reason he could have had it all was to keep Shiyi by his side and he would have had ZSC's support. But once ZSC selected the child emperor, he would i) never been made regent - its usually the mother or some high ranking minister that does NOT have a direct line to the throne, ie no conflict of interest and ii) his engagement with Shiyi should have been immediately broken once he was made regent bc with Cui family backing, of course he would feel he can seize the throne. Like ZSC, while he was regent he should have been made to make a vow not to marry or father children to take the incentive to usurp away. They needed to hire another writer who knows how to write political plots bc MBFB doesn't she is just a great romantic writer. I could go on but I think the point is made wrt the political plot makes no sense when you drill down into it.

Yeah when they showed her burning them I knew what she was going to do but it would be nice to see them leave some relic of their past to be found in the future. Maybe it is the library key survives.
