Well she is a princess but her name is Liu Ying again so its not a flashback bc the first Liu Ying was a maid. It could be a fifth life where she is about to meet dragon king or it could be a dream because it doesn't really follow from the ending. It was tossed out to appease inconsolable netizens at the sad or bittersweet ending. I guess people don't like the idea of their souls being used to guard or seal the heaven web forever. Apparently it is better than the game ending which is definitely sad. Its why I initially didn't bother to look for the Easter egg, I read that it makes it more confusing and now that I have seen it, I have to agree.

Yes but it is not a foregone conclusion she would have succeeded bc fate deity's intent was to consume her soul before she succeeded.

I don't know where the Easter egg is - someone else mentioned it and I was fine with the ending as is so I never looked for it. I think it may still be behind a paywall but it may show up for free later on.

Ah ok, I didn't know you are not done - won't spoil you further then. Just watch and see for yourself. I didn't love many things about this show but the ending was fairly good IMHO.

Yes I agree, its not brought out as well as it could have been but he came across as envious and malcontented within the first few episodes so I had him pinpointed as the villain early on. I do think it is pretty cool how he basically manipulated the entire series of Liu Ying's reincarnations so that her soul would be properly "seasoned" by the powerful aura of the dragon king's protection. I guess they wanted it to be kind of a "twist" or a surprise and it just didn't pop out.

It wasn't that bad because the FL is ultimately a mortal, she would have never been able to have more than a lifetime with dragon king anyway without going through the same reincarnation process again. This way, they are both guarding the heaven's net together for all eternity. They didn't get sucked into the mirror like most people think - that is just an artefact that Xie Qianxun uses to monitor the skies.
There is apparently an easter egg (eye roll) that shows she gets reincarnated into a fifth life where they are together. I didn't bother to hunt it down to watch it (probably behind a pay wall) bc I think the ending as is is fine as is rather than an never ending cycle.

His motive is not great but you know Fate deity is not that powerful, he just is like a heavenly record keeper that is privy to a lot of secrets by virtue of his role. But he has to toady to all the other deities and has no real power, that's why he always covets powerful artefacts and is willing to trade them for secrets. And all beings are always trying to cultivate to advance themselves. He was probably always envious of Dragon King's awesome power and when he stumbled upon how special Liu Ying's soul is, he seized the opportunity to use it to make himself more powerful than maybe even Jade Emperor.

It is incredibly static. Like the thing doesn't move ever unless its a glitch. The fact that 2x the no of people have voted since we were watching when airing and the rating does not change. It either says most people are crowd followers, they just rate it close to the existing rating. Or there is something dodgy about it.

Why don't you check out Young Bloods if you haven't watched it yet. Its similar ensemble team of spies. And Su Xiao Tong plays an uncannily similar character and is paired up with another uncannily similar character to Prince An but they are the second couple. Its a very good show, at least comparable if not better than this.

It always cracks me up that as a Chinese production CCP = good guys and Kuomintang = bad guys. If it were Taiwanese production, then just flip it.

Ii think what is special about the WOH cast is you can tell how much they loved the production and each other. I also think shooting a drama on a shoestring budget during a global pandemic is kind of an extra kind of bonding, almost found family like experience. The concert was both like a victory and farewell party.

I watched the first 6. Its definitely not crappy and in general its well written and well acted. It appears like there may be a pretty big logic hole but it could go away when more is revealed later. And since outside of this the writing overall doesn't look sloppy, I am willing to go with it for now and just assume its not a logic flaw for now.

I hope for ZZH Retro Detective goes well. But for years I have watched the industry try to recapture that wild whacky side splitting craziness of Aces Goes Places with Detective Chinatown the most successful so far but still a far cry away from the original. I am not quite convinced Retro Detective is gonna be able to do it either but it still could be quite successful for him.
