The CGI for this is not as good as WOF. But the WOF story is a mess and there is not proper world building. I dropped it. This is funny and the father daughter relationship is hilarious.

There is no such thing as couples with no misunderstandings. But as long as they are not too contrived like 99pct of the ones in dreamland just to create angst it should be acceptable and realistic.

I think General Song is not that great or selfless a guy - the way he looks at the treasure tells you he likes it a lot. He has a weasel face - I think he is greedy and ambitious and most likely is Wang Lin's spy from the beginning. And that old goat is definitely not dead yet.

It is not the first time I question her judgement. I also didn't like how she just takes the emperor's side against her dad. They are both bad guys who made a power sharing bargain with each other that they each tried to renege from. But the damn emperor tried to kill her and Xiao Qi. She forgives him too easily but won't even save her dad! No wonder he left without speaking to her even though he clearly loves her. But I am ok with her having flaws - its better than the invincible and too perfect heroes and heroines. Both Xiao Qi and her have miscalculated many things and it is coming back to bite them. But this latest one with Wang Qian just seems OTT stupid.

I must admit I am kind of annoyed at Wang Xuan for going to so much trouble to try to save that noisy airhead. Even the Empress Dowager has the good sense to be relieved that her plans to marry her to her son as a second wife fell apart and washes her hands off her. I mean to actually go see Helan Zhen alone?? That made me think WTF are you thinking??? There is no better secret weapon than to marry off a troll like that to the enemy that Xiao Qi and his army have been holding off at the border for so long. And the fact she is willing to throw some other girl, possibly even the Gu girl under the bus as instead just makes me smh. The latest episodes are otherwise as dull as dishwater with lots of unpleasant shriek-y background noise.

Episodes 40-41 re Wang Qian:

Well she is actually supposed to marry Helan Tuo who is allegedly a real troll but my guess is Helan Zhen ends up strangling her to shut her up on the way back.

Actually I must admit Wan Ru is very smart. She kills a few birds with one stone, neatly foiling her mother in laws plans; plants a spy/seductress in Wang Xuan's household and even if Wang Qian fails, she is sending noise pollution to the enemy.

Other influential families were already scheming to gain advantage by marrying their daughters to him as second wives; esp after the fall of Wang clan. He neatly forestalled that by shrewdly arranging a second marriage where he publicly vowed he would only have one wife.

Ok I am dying of laughter - Helen Zhen is going to be afflicted with migraines going forward. A match made in hell and there is justice in the Shangyang universe!!!

I am not that fussed about it...ancient contraceptive methods are not effective. And I think that is just intended to tell us our OTP are very ahem... "affectionate" with each other. And establish the fact that she is not of robust health.
