Some fan videos of Maiden Holmes came up on my youtube yesterday and I was struck by how closely Zhang Linghe looks like Lai Yi. They could be brothers except Zhang Linghe is much younger. I haven't had time to watch more than 6 but I think it is fair to say Lai Yi has not warmed up to this role but he is not entirely bad at it either. I personally don't like the SML - he is way too shrimpy and lacking in presence for me but it is just a matter of personal taste.

Yeah I posted a link when this first started airing early in this thread that used to show all the episodes and VIP episodes as well but it doesn't work anymore for me. It seems I have become region restricted. I also have a box but it doesn't work well with MangoTV - I can't seem to get VIP on it so for example I PTW Black Lighthouse but it is not even on my box yet.

I saw it a few weeks ago I thought about buying VIP but didn't because I was busy I didn't have time. I can see 38 is out but now I am blocked bc of region restrictions. A few weeks ago I wasn't but I didn't have VIP so I couldn't watch it. I think the show got licensed to other regions so MangoTV started putting region restrictions on it.

This is not bad. Bai Lu is spirited and funny in this but from the first few it looks like Lai Yi hasn't really gotten into character yet. Hope he improves. He is one that I have been hoping would get lead roles after liking him in support roles but he so far he doesn't seem to quite make that transition well here...

Yeah I had problems also. Going after paying subscribers is new to all of them, esp international ones. But it doesn't matter you pretty much pay through ads anyway. But when no one is advertising we won't get that many good, high budget shows.

LOL - My guess is The Wolf (and other highly anticipated dramas including Zhang Ziyi's) will come when ads recover in China. Should be within next 3-6 months. The Wolf is gonna be harder bc all 3 platforms are involved and all 3 of them have to secure enough ad revenue to agree to launch it...

Unfortunately iQiyi still loses about ~ CNY1.5bn every quarter - I doubt Ruyi Pavillion is gonna save it. The Bad Kids was a huge hit and it still couldn't save it last quarter. Since most people watch for free they need advertising to be strong (which it isn't) to make money. The reason we went through a recent drama drought is partly because advertising is still very weak so none of the platforms want to launch their best dramas. Maybe that is also why The Wolf is still not out yet.

Really? I love Zheng Ye Cheng but even he couldnt make me keep watching Sleepless Princess... I wish he takes some good roles if he does something with Tan Songyun its bound to be at least pretty good...

Li Yi Tong was incredibly tragic and stoic at the same time in Royal Nirvana. I had new respect for her because it was a difficult role that she nailed to perfection. I didn't like her in Sword Dynasty or Bloody Romance. Her Huang Rong was quite good but not the best.... Anyway I look forward to this...
