After some reflection, I realized that if dad confesses, then the entire clan is complicit bc he is the head of the clan. Then the whole Meng clan would have to be executed or exiled - which is probably also what happened to Shen Zaiye's Xie clan. That was probably what Zaiye was proposing but the emperor refused to accept his propsal bc once Huaijin took the fall, it could be argued that it was just one wayward, disgraced member of the clan who was a bad influence on the crown prince, no one else was to blame. So the Meng clan is disgraced and demoted but they live to fight another day.

I consider being able to deliver lines a basic requirement as an actor - even not particularly good ones should be able to do it and most are with the glaring exception of traffic actors. Hu Ge, Wang Kai, Zhu Yilong, Song Jia, Bai Yu, Ni Ni, Zhang Ruoyun, Li Naiwen, etc etc etc can all do it well. As for Zhang Jingyi, I am not that surprised. She chews her words when she speaks - it’s not cute it’s annoying.

Well, she could be either the 2nd or 3rd prince's mother. If she is the 2nd prince's mom, she knows Shen Zaiye is colluding with him against the first prince. And there is no harm praising the 4th prince - he has power/clan behind him.
I am fine with dubbing as long as its better than the original. I think part of the problem here is some of the lines were obviously changed. That's why the lip movement doesn't match at all. I don't think MZY is that good an actor and I suspect her lines are not great BUT I don't think she is so bad that she and the voice dubber are so completely off in so many places.

He also doesn't want Zaiye to think he now rules the court so he is already making moves to rein him in. He is a master at balancing power in the court to make sure there are checks and balances so that everyone is his pawn and not the other way around. I always appreciate a well written emperor.

That is kind of the setting of Qi kingdom in this story - the aristocracy is incredibly powerful, so much so that even the emperor treads carefully around them. This emperor is very smart, it is not that easy to pull the wool over his eyes.
