I think the English title is over-selling the romance in the drama. And to be fair, there is a lot of romance…
I am not huge romance watcher and I think the fake kiss scenes in most c-dramas totally kill the vibe far more than no kiss scene at all. IMHO one of the hottest, most sensual CPs was Nini and Chen Kun in TROP and they maybe only kissed once so I don't think its all that necessary.

Ep 17/18: I am going to guess that
sect uncle Shen Tunan is a bad guy. Probably even the biggest baddest guy. Not only bc they cast a villain actor. But mainly bc he has to be the reason Xuanye's dad warned him away from the Underground City. I don't believe he was banished from the sect just for falling in love with a now MIA fox demon. He is after something (Xuanye's sword box???) and is probably a danger to Xuanye.

The reason I keep asking about the romance part is because this is a romance drama and the ML is known for not…
I think the English title is over-selling the romance in the drama. And to be fair, there is a lot of romance focused on the attachment between demons and humans. But the Chinese title 无忧渡 is literally translated Worryfree Crossing or Wuyou Crossing. I believe Wuyou in this drama's world should either be the demon realm or the world between the human and demon realm. It is part of the strange tales/zhiguai/liaozhai genre, which was especially popular during Tang dynasty. It should not be a primarily romance focused drama. Or at least that is how I interpret the Chinese title.

Yes that's it - it doesn't really have an overriding tone.

I have a feeling that ML's bio dad has entered the chat(Uncle Master guy). I guess ML is half human half fox demon.…
Uncle Master was just a sect brother of his father. They should have no blood relationship.

" still the presentation is just... off."
I think the screenplay could have been edited down a bit and it lacks humor. This is the kind of genre that invites dark humor and unlike Strange Tales of Tang Dynasty, there is none. Some parts/characters that aren't that interesting talk a lot and there is almost too much foreshadowing. And there are a few times RJL's line delivery took me out of the script so I am not quite there in terms of rooting for the main CP. I felt more for the cuz and his demon lover. I enjoyed the puppet arc overall but the ending was not satisfying. The cases here are pretty good, very spooky and connected but I remember in No Boundary the first two cases were so good @sony_t and I were left sobbing helplessly. I think one was also about a mirror demon. But idk after that that drama went off the rails I couldn't complete it.

Yeah, I actually think the best roles so far have been all the demons. They were all really good.

Finally, I watched this movie in canto! 🤩 Thank goodness HK cinema is still alive and kicking high! 😝
It's fantastic. I watched it 2x just for the action.

Yes that may well be the boss demon that kidnapped Banxia's dad.

I was sad for the cat but I feel the innkeeper didn't deserve to be saved. He stood by and did nothing while Wuniang murdered countless guests. He is just as culpable as Wuniang. The silly, misguided cat wasted its last life on someone unworthy.

Her debut was as the young Lin Mo in Love and Destiny and she super charming and adorable. Love and Destiny was also shot by this director and One and Only was shot by a director that often works with her.

Yeah me too but I agree it’s tolerable here. As for Dafeng, the lines were beyond atrocious. I lasted 20 minutes and Hedi is on my NO list unless he is dubbed.

Bian Jiang is just the best in the business. He MADE so many lead roles pop from TMOPB to Princess Agents, Weiyoung to Shen Li. Most of the time I prefer actors voice themselves but when it comes to Bian Jiang I can't say for sure that that many actors other than the likes of Hu Ge, Zhang Ruoyun, Chen Kun, Tan Jianci, Zhang Wanyi and a few others can do a better job.

We have seen the Biyu Pear碧玉梨 and this puppet story should be Purple Coffin 紫棺. I think the snake story is called Red Rust红绣 and the cat's story should be Nine Lives 九命. There is also 树母 Tree Mother and Bone Washing Pond 洗骨池.

I only suspected Banxia could be a demon bc she doesn't seem to be afraid of walking around the forest alone in the dark. I also hope for a HE but I am quite sure not everyone is going to make it. The cute rabbit has to be Xuanye's demon companion and in this genre those tend to die to save their buddy.

I wasn't able to watch Thousand Years for You or Burning Flames. I think I liked Royal Nirvana, One and Only and Under the Power so much bc they got him truly excellent VAs. While I applaud him for trying here, I wish he just keeps practicing with modern dramas (which I don't watch) until he gets it right. 😅His Mandarin is actually not bad, the real issue is his voice is very monotone which I think is hard to fix.
