I will be honest I don’t think it’s a fantastic drama it had some dull stretches but it’s enjoyable enough overall. I think it was a mistake to kill off so many characters I got invested in at the halfway point and also separate both leads. Bc Yunxiu is sweet and boring I am having hard time rooting that hard for the girl power team. They really needed to write her with a better personality to make them pop more.

I think its usually better when they use humor to make it more interesting. But this story is very heavy themed with little to no humor.

That's really not the same as saying he was picked as the ML for PG and couldn't do it. He may have auditioned for it but if he got the role, he'd definitely do it bc it would have been the best role he's gotten to date.

CSJ is the opposite of Duanwu. She is already at the uppermost echelons of the social hierarchy as a daughter of one of the big noble clans. Her only path was to marry well into another family of equal or higher standing and she fought that bc she wanted to be like a son at the helm of the family's business interests which even during Tang dynasty was not realistic. Duanwu was at the very bottom of the social hierarchy as a slave. She literally had nothing to lose. However far she manages to advance, it is all upside for her. They are interesting characters bc they start out at opposite ends and probably end up somewhere in the middle. But one moves down while the other moves up.

And it is actually women from the lower classes that are always the most free. But even in this drama someone like ZJR can't marry Duanwu as a main wife bc of her low social class. Merchants are considered the lowest social class in ancient China.
