Drama viewers can be shockingly callous. His path is literally littered with dead bodies of innocent people and the character is completely remorseless. It left a bad taste in my mouth every time he popped up on the screen. I can understand if hey made him a bit more empathetic but they made no attempt to do that.

Nah the ending dialogues were definitely off. It should have been an easy fix in the dubbing. I just think everyone was tired and it just got sloppy towards the end.

Yeah and instead of inching away from him at the cliff she practically runs into his arms. I let it go as last minute bad editing but omg...

Yeah it was his last pathetic attempt to make sure she doesn’t forget him but tbh she shouldn’t feel guilty he put her in danger. I also think that entire scene was shot and meant to play out earlier in the narrative bc she keeps calling LSY third bro which is a weird way to address him after they are married. It just seemed off.

Don’t put words in my mouth I never said you are deaf I was just pointing out why it matters more to me but comments like that definitely make me think you are ignorant. That was government imposed long ago bc so many actors spoke terrible Mandarin but it is changing. The government recognizes the appalling rise in traffic actors whose entire careers were made by voice actors so it is now punitively expensive for actors who can’t dub themselves to be dubbed. It also puts an end to the exploitation of VAs who are doing so much of the hard work without the same compensation and recognition. That is why newcomers like ZWY and WXY who can deliver their own are getting so many good lead roles and those who can’t are in supporting roles .

I am a native speaker so of course the difference is very obvious to me and most of the viewers of these dramas though it may not be to others. And I am not just generalizing for myself. Acting includes both the vocal and physical performance. So it’s comparing apples and oranges to say someone who only did half the job is the same as someone who did the whole thing.. And I have nothing against dubbing if the actor just can’t deliver the lines well. I also feel in this case, Ren Min should have been dubbed by someone else but I respect her decision to take it on and hope she gets better in time.

We have different standards. I don’t consider anyone who can’t do their own lines great actors and it has nothing to do with tenure. RJL, Yang Mi , Xu Kai, Dylan Wang etc all have to be dubbed all the time for their roles to work. I have nothing against Ci Sha but unfortunately he falls into that category. The difference is they can’t make movies where dubbing is not used but original lines only. As for ZWY there are videos on it but you will have to look for them yourself or believe what you want . It doesn’t matter. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Ci Sha is an average actor. He was bailed out here by a very good voice actor. His own voice is on the wimpy side, his line delivery is not great and his standard mandarin is far short of standard. He could never carry this role on his own vocals whereas both leads for better or worse dub themselves and ZWY is recognized in the industry for his lines and his voice acting. They are not in the same league at all.

I would add he murdered all of her maids in Haitang Pavilion when he burned the place and kidnapped her. The guy was completely unhinged, cruel and not in the least lovable.

No the small boy Ting is the Duke’s heir. She’s just getting her dowry and that’s it but it’s already ample. Feudal patriarchal society works like that.

These are just a dramas for light entertainment. No need to read too deeply into them as most of the screen writers are quite shallow and most viewers know better than to draw life lessons from them.

Not to mention all those poor dead maids from the fire he set. His path is littered with bodies - no cdrama would ever pass censorship if he were the ML.

I haven't come across 眉眉 as a word either. I guess in this case it is used as a name. Tbh there were times I thought I heard the VA was say 眉妹 but whenever I look at the subs its 眉眉.

I have Chiinese subs on and to be fair I can hear its second tone mei mei and not fourth tone mei mei but the character is so creepy it just gives off a completely wrong vibe whenever he says it.

Even though people like to fret over the so called sibling relationship between SY and YN, what creeped me out consistently more than anything else was LJX an old determined bachelor lovingly calling a much younger girl Mei Mei over and over again. I know its 眉眉 and a homonym for mei mei as in little sister but even when SY was still calling her 七妹妹 it never sounded gross like that.
