They filmed mostly at Hengdian but some of the desert scenes were shot at Alxa Left Banner which is in Inner Mongolia, at the very edge of the desert. Its very high up there so its not that hot. And its been irrigated its now part of China's wine country. That's why the sand looks quite damp and no longer the loose dry sand that blows all over the place. There are lots of flies and mosquitos there bc quite a lot of people live there agriculture is a big industry.

He says it’s the Gobi and I think it’s the edge near Beijing which is where many productions like to shoot quick desert scenes bc it’s easy and very tame there. Many tourists go there to take pictures in the “desert”. But lots of it is obviously green screen as well. They use drones to capture the real desert footage these days and drop it into the background in post production bc it’s much cheaper that way and it looks good.

I play tennis all year round in intense heat with no sunblock and I get tan but I don’t burn. The only times I need sunblock is on the ski slopes and in the desert. It’s the sun ‘s reflection on the ice and the silica in the sand. The only time I got burned was in the Gobi. Reyzha and the Minning Town cast talked a lot about the heat, sunburn, windburn and intense challenges filming in the Gobi. Uyghurs are not any more sun proof than the average Asian person and they look nothing like the Uyghur actresses who have embraced the Chinese pale skin beauty standard. They avoid the sun and sunblock vigorously to stay so white. You just need to Google images of normal Uyghur people to see what I mean. And as I said they don’t live in the desert they haven’t for centuries. They inhabit the normal parts of Xinjiang which has very liveable weather of all 4 seasons. I have been there for work and fun many times. I can’t even believe how ignorant that statement they live in the desert they are ok is !!! He thinks they are all still in Tang dynasty omg! Even then they cross the desert for trade but mostly lived in the mountains or in the oasis.

Nah they shot small bits at the edge which is very common but massive swarths of it is obviously green screen. If they really shot in the desert, her cheeks will be so sunburnt and windburned they will be bright red for weeks and no amount of makeup will cover it so will her bare skin. I have been there you want to cover up all over. The Minning Town actors all looked burned throughout. When I was there, I could see my SPF 100 sunblock mellt off.

So far most of it looked like a green screen to me. In the Gobi, she’d get 3rd degree burns in that outfit and makeup in just 20 minutes of filming.. Go watch Minning Town and you will see what the desert it should really look like.
Does anyone know if the leads or anyone for that matter dubbed themselves or did they have voice actors do them?…
