The FL's father was the City Lord of Masui. Her uncle killed him in a coup. The FL is the 9th princess of Masui. She swapped identities with the 2FL who is from Enaqi, a downtrodden tribe. The powerful tribes are Yunpei, Tiandu and Masui.

My guess is it is because of tribal/city wars. The FL's mother is from the Enaqi tribe and fled to Tiandu for help. She must not have realized that her Enaqi tribe (also 2FL's tribe) already made a marriage contract/alliance Yunpei, which we know bc that is where the 2FL was headed. Tiandu must have suspected that it was a ruse kind of like a Trojan Horse for either Yunpei or Masui to get into their city. Their city must have been war damaged they have not admitted outsiders for long years. Just speculation on my part, I didn't read the novel.

Lol... no I finished it. I sent my laptop in for servicing and didn't want to write a review on my handphone or iPad so I waited till I got it back. I am happy China is now more liberal about making villains more empathetic. Its nice to see them mix things up a bit.

There are more absurdities. Like why would WZ’s heavily pregnant sister be allowed to even leave her rooms much less go pray at the family crypt. It’s so inappropriate and ridiculous.

Pei Yan's mother led the emperor to believe that Pei Yan is his son. Jiang Ci is Prince Qi's daughter. How can the emperor allow a wedding between his son and his brother's daughter? Cousins of the same surname cannot marry in ancient China, it is incest. Even if he doesn't believe Pei Yan's mother, he should have a seed of doubt and in an abundance of caution avoid that. Makes zero sense this plot bc they changed her from a nobody to a somebody and didn't bother to think through how that impacts the rest of the plot.

There are obvious bugs emerging in the storyline.
