Yes Pei Yan is his mother's son for sure. And I think the drama did a very good job showing us JiangCi's epiphany. Why would so many people willingly die to protect Zhao Wei? And what happened to the Yueluo she read about in her books. All the pieces are falling in place.

From the start, I felt Pei Yan was just more sophisticated and charming about it but he was just as ruthless and callous about how he uses the FL. Even Cui Liang low key disapproves of him. They are both the same but one is a polished diamond while the other is rough. But Wei Zhou's dark ruthlessness is because he is in despair - his father was framed, his mother and his people were massacred and his sister married the sociopath that visited untold grief on their people. He is a very pitiful character I don't blame him for his darkness and cruelty. Whereas the privileged and ambitious Pei Yan's only true suffering is his mother is a total nutcracker.
