It's actually a good story with many interesting ideas. But the lead couple only has decent chemistry. To make matters worse, while second lead is a really interesting character, his love interest is mis-cast, boring and makes me roll my eyes the moment she comes onscreen. To be honest, the ensemble cast overall does not have good chemistry with one another - they are all clearly just going through the motions of playing their roles. But overall the plot is interesting enough to pass some time - so overall, its not bad, its just not great.

Well I found BFTB funnier but this story has interesting moments as well although I don't think the couple's chemistry is as good. The other good airing drama is Gone with the Rain but its not a xianxia.

This freaking witch doctor is the biggest villain of the drama. I hate him.

As a non-novel reader, I enjoyed the drama well enough but could see where the writing nosedived nonetheless. Thank you for such a succinct and clear explanation of how it deviated in not the best of ways.
