I know fighting mythical beasts is a big feature of this genre and they are very well executed in this series. That said, my preference is always for hand to hand combat with humans. They are technically much more difficult to choreograph and shoot well.

The first 2 seasons weren't popular on MDL either. The MDL audience is heavily skewed towards romance watchers.

I may have have underestimated when I guess S20... the guy reigned for 44 years. S3 takes place in year 1. SWM may no longer be alive by the time Yang Guifei comes along.. 😅

😁😅😂 Well Li Longji was a very romantic emperor - he loved many women including his childhood love who was his empress in Flourished Peony. Yang Guifei was his final May and December romance.

Shangguan Wan”er is dead and Wu Zhao is over. Yang Guifei only shows up in the latter years of Li Longji’s reign - so maybe in season 20…

I really enjoyed Case 3 and I am actually really excited about this season for the political intrigue. This was one of the most interesting parts of Chinese history for all the scheming that went on - it was one of those times were real life was much more exciting than fiction.

To me, LLF did anything wrong. He's a good looking dude. Its not his fault women fangirl him along the way. And if she didn't, she'd have stabbed him dead. I liked how Li Nai'er's backstory was folded into history - it seemed like a bit of a Dumas plot. Sorry to hear these aspects aren't great for you but I am all over it like cheap suit.😅

It is a classic And Then There Were None case structure. Been done many times but usually works when done well.

For sure it was well done but in general I don’’t love fighting CGI beasts. I am all for the hand to hand human to human combat scenes.

If I recall correctly, Princess Taiping rebelled very early on in Li Longji's reign. So I suspect she will die at the end of this season.

I think they will stick with history. Bc they have directly named her and other surrounding characters.

I knew the girls were in it together. But as a huge fan of Tang political intrigue, the Shangguan Wan'er angle was so good!

Yeah that was a terrific scene that captured his inner conflict. He loves his mother but he knows she is wrong. Even though I don't think she is entirely wrong, she is just born in the wrong place at the wrong time.

No one dies falling down a cliff in a Chinese drama. No one.

To each their own. I really enjoyed the Case 3 fight scenes. They were a bit cruel but the use of the claw was different and creative. And even though I partly guessed the villain, the twist still surprised me.
