I think you may be disappointed then bc the entire story is about the battle for the throne - Who Rules The World.

All true but it is also clear that Chang has a cruel streak and longs for his mother’s affection and approval. Lanxi would be stupid to trust him when there is a throne and his life at stake even if he loves and empathizes with him.

There are definitely editing issues but I really enjoy the dialogue. It is very sophisticated. Even the way Qiwu hits on Lanxi it’s very refined using clever Classical analogies. And his rejection is also very tactfully phrased. Unlike many recent historical dramas the phraseology is not overly modern that it takes me out of the moment.

Yeah but those are one off subscribers that have low commercial value to them vs a multi year license to Netflix with ongoing fees and royalties.

Youku bought China rights and local broadcasters in Thailand and Korea also picked up rights. Croton is not viewer facing and they don’t want to compete with their customers the platforms and TV stations for viewers. So they are happy to hold back on making it widely available so that their customers have incentive to buy rights from them. Once they start to air it on YouTube for free, they won’t get as much money for the rights from their customers anymore. Like if you can watch it on YouTube you are not going to subscribe to Netflix so that you can watch it. Croton doesn’t care about individual customers only big ones.
