Well, I think one of the main reasons the comment section is so negative is because this drama was heavily overhyped on Twitter and other social media platforms before it even aired. A lot of international fans were selling it as "the next big thing" based almost entirely on the posters, the kiss scenes, and the fact that the leads looked gorgeous together in Republican-era styling. At the end of the day, I think this drama is suffering from being overpromoted by its own fandom. People sold it based on visuals rather than substance.
Normalizing minor actors doing romance with a 28yr actor shoukd not be normalized. They only get away with it…
I agree that it shouldn't be normalized. But at the same time, I don't think the Chinese entertainment industry is going to change because a small number of international fans disagree. The conversation on MDL or X is very different from what's happening on Chinese platforms. The reception there is largely positive people are enjoying the drama and supporting it .
At the end of the day it's a Chinese drama , starring Chinese actors, approved by Chinese broadcasters and regulators. It was created for its primary audience It's made under China's own industry standards, not your country's rules or your personal checklist. If you don't like it, don't watch it. It's that simple. But writing essays on MDL, X, or anywhere else as if China is waiting for your approval is... optimistic. The drama will still air. People who enjoy it will still watch it. The industry will keep making dramas for its own audience. Not every piece of entertainment has to cater to your expectations and that's okay.
As for Li Fei and Xiyuan, I've seen so many comments asking, "When is the angst going to end?" or "When are they finally going to get together?" I honestly think people have become so used to romances that move at lightning speed that they've forgotten the beauty of watching a relationship develop slowly and organically. What I love most about their relationship is its gradual emotional progression. Watching Xiyuan slowly come to terms with his feelings, unconsciously seeking Li Fei's attention and wanting to be close to her . It's the lingering glances, the quiet jealousy, the unspoken concern, make their dynamic so compelling . I am totally loving it 😍 the chemistry is 🔥 Song Weilong and Ju Jingyi need to do more dramas together ❤️
Honestly, I'm genuinely enjoying this drama. Yes, there are moments where the editing feels a little off, as seven entire episodes were cut. Even then, I don't think the pacing is bad. If anything, it feels quite balanced. Ironically, had those seven episodes remained, I'm pretty sure many of the same people would be complaining that the story was too slow .
July would be the best time for this drama to release. With so many other dramas that will release in July , the haters will have plenty to focus on and the rest of us can enjoy this one in peace. 😌
I think this incident should be a reality check for many fans that what looks perfect onscreen is often very different from reality, especially when it comes to celebrity relationships and cast dynamics. People may look close, laugh together, interact comfortably during promotions, and appear inseparable in interviews, but a lot of it is still part of maintaining a professional image for the audience. Regarding this situation, I personally feel Dylan should have handled things more maturely. Considering he had already seen the discussions circulating online, his response only ended up adding more fuel to the fire. The issue is not that he had feelings about the situation — Everyone is entitled to their boundaries and emotions. The problem is how those feelings were communicated. When you have millions of supporters, even subtle actions can have a very real impact on other people.

She feels very realistic because she’s always clear about what she wants, who she likes, and who she dislikes. She never pretends to be morally perfect or overly kind, and that honesty makes her character interesting. On the other hand, characters like Jin Lun come across as a bit self-righteous to me. From the beginning, his behavior felt more like stalking than curiosity — especially since she clearly asked him to stop following her . Even all that “tribulation” devotion was hard for me to take 🤣
Yes , She asked him for help to kill her father but he also had the choice to refuse. He knew the situation was dangerous and the chances of success were low from the start. And I don’t think A Sheng truly wanted him dead either — it’s just that, compared to her hatred toward her father and everything tied to her past, Jin Lun simply wasn’t her priority. Letting him go was honestly the most reasonable choice in that moment because if her father had survived, both of them would probably have died anyway. Atleast that way he had a chance to survive
People criticize her for being cold, but that’s literally how her character is written. I don’t understand why some viewers expect her to suddenly become soft after a few emotional moments. Her personality is shaped by trauma, anger, and survival. I think her character development will come gradually over time rather than through an instant personality change. I honestly don’t know what Jin Lun expected from her.
As for her friendship with the FL, I know she can seem possessive sometimes, but to me it feels more like overprotectiveness. The FL is innocent, trusting, and easily manipulated, and A Sheng knows that better than anyone. So it makes sense that she’d be guarded around the ML, especially when she barely knows his intentions. Deep down, I genuinely think she only wants happiness and safety for her senior sister because that’s basically the only family she has left.
