A confusing mix of genres executed poorly . . . a real disappointment given an interesting premise
First, some positives. Our prosecutor Eun Sae is bold, upbeat and successful city woman, someone with a Plan A, B and C. Her personality preserved post amnesia was really fun. She had a lot of initial skepticism on the village/countryside fantasy life Tae Ha is selling. This was all refreshing and a nice change in a female lead. Tae Ha playing a fiercely protective gangster trying to leave the lifestyle, I'll always take a guy sacrificing for a girl in a plot.
And then it all crashed and burned, Eun Sae loses all of her fire, and becomes wide eyed and guileless with no sense of self preservation. Tae Ha's ridiculous plan to save her gets more and more ridiculous. And Google not existing but social media existing was a hard pill to swallow about the realities of this world. It was hard to continue to buy in.
I was still watching for some reason, I think because how it would all resolve with the amnesia, and the corruption, is an intriguing mystery. But, then they had to devote more and more plot to San Gil, the psychotic man with 9 lives,. I really don't need some 30-50% of screen time to be devoted to torture scenes, and wild maniacal laughter, and yet, that's where this drama decides to go.
Also, and this is a bit petty, but absolutely true, they tried to shoot the action scenes cinematically with interesting music choices, angles, lighting, but it didn't really gel for me, and definitely fell short of the action scenes in say Agent Kim Reactivated.
I'm dropping, and I recommend skipping. It absolutely was not paying off to stick with it.
