I think we got 16 ep in 1 is because, he rather needs to live the 99 days in a human body and collect souls/bodys, or die and get complete control over the human body to collect the souls bodys. And since the story is about Kokdu and not Do Jin Woo, they put everything relevant in 1 ep, so he could die and be Kokdu. I hope what i wrote is plausible xd
