The thread on the cutie pie page has gotten really polarized, with basically everyone with the same opinion ganging up and going against each other just on principle. Sad that you think this is just solely a
problem
stemming from me :(

Sorry about the long threads, I try not to reply anymore. I’m new here so everytime I see a new reply notification I feel obliged to reply.

That being said I also wish that people would stop replying and leave this be now.

Did you notice that Suibian and a couple of others who keep replying to this thread with not so constructive comments have been commenting negatively under every positive review of cutie pie. It is one thing to leave one critical comment and answer to any replies to that but what is the point on spending so much time on the cutie pie page if they did not like the show? That is not just criticism anymore but entering hate territory.

Also, I noticed that many people writing to this thread have been making negative comments under every positive comment they see. That is getting close to hate ik my opinion. If you do not like a show leave one negative review and after that move on to things that you actually like. What is the point to staty on the cutie pie page everyday if the show was not to their liking? When I don’t like a show I might leave one critical comment that still points out the positives as well. I do not go and reply to every positive comment with a negative one😅that is not criticism anymore

Btw may I ask what you did your Phd thesis on? :)I’m still doing my master’s, which is about women in the Japanese far right organization Nippon kaigi.

As fir the first part of your reply I felt that that particular commentor has been very immature with their repeated ”toxic,toxic,toxi
c”, and in general their tone came across as very attacking.

You have on the other hand have been reasonable in your replies, so do not worry. I really appreciate it even though we have things we do not agree on. I was actually surprised you did not pick up on attacking tone of some comments, but maybe you just did not want to say anything. The user I just replied to came across as super immature so I was surprised by the age
claim.

I wanted to exit this trainwreck of a conversation but I just really have to ask: Are you really almost 40? What’s up with all the ”yo”s and ”bros”:D My initial guess based on the use of language would have been under 16.

Regarding the ”consent issue” I would like to mention that me and my girlfriend kiss sometimes while we are drunk, but never have we ever considered ourselves to be in a toxic relationship because of this. I guess what I’m trying to say is that it feels to me that some peiple hold BL characters to impossible standards when ppl in the LGBT community often try some new and kinky stuff at the spur of the moment. Fortunately my ace ass will not have to worry about these
things tho:D

I wouldn’t say Bad buddy is enemies-to -lovers, more like rivals-to -lovers. I agree with you on there being plot holes in cutie pie tho.

I understand that for some people consent needs to be spelled out on paper, which is fair to prefer I guess. I would still like to point out here that Lian just took Kuea back home and left after. They did nothing sexual while he was drunk.

Also If we are going to talk about iffy behavior we might as well mention Kuea’s little ”love-corner” in the secret house. If this was real life it is Lian that should run:D but since it is fiction and we know that neither of the characters have bad intentions towards each other we should just relax and enjoy the ride:D

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I recently signed up here and thought to watch some shows that are really popular. I was so confused by the fact that I ended up liking quite badly rated shows and not liking the best rated ones. Maybe I should interpret everything in reverseXD

Also just to ease everyone’s mind Bad buddy was not all bad, it was just ”meh” to me. And it had its good aspects as well, the girl couple was lovely and the romantic scenes were shot in pleasant angles. I acknowledge the director did

Hmmm, maybe because the range of stories that can be set at school are quite limited, which make all of them very similar. The characters dynamics have to be really unique or complicated for a school bl to gain my favor. Also I prefer the characters to
be adultsXD

I’m really happy shows centered around LGBT characters are getting more popular. Please continue enjoying BB if it is to your liking, it shows to creators that ppl want more queer content so I’m happy. I was just really surprised as a gay inexperienced to the BL community by the obsession with purity considering that the actual queer community can be pretty darn kinky:D It just seems unfair that BL characters have to be pure and flawless in order to be accepted by fans. Queer ppl can be fucked up tooXD

Yea I was wondering because I have not been watchin Bl that long that maybe Bad buddy got such a good reception because it was better than previous school BLs. In which case gosh I can not go and watch anything pre-2020:D

Also it’s important to have media literacy and not take everything that is portrayed at face-value or truth. It is not the job of content creators to educate people, we need to be able to distinguish right from wrong ourselves. People who are not mature enough to do that should limit their media consumption.

Finally, before sex scene Lian confirmed that Kuea was not drunk and told him to tell him immediately if he is not okay. What more could he do? The kink in this was extremely mild to the point that I don’t think safe words are needed. If they start getting into spanking of something maybe then😂

To sum it up Kuea obviously enjoyed being a naughty brat and Lian didn’t mind being an indulgent daddy:D

This is what I mean when I say that people like to throw around the word ”toxic” for any relationship that is not just plain vanilla (as an asexual person I find this especially funny since people expect ace people to shy away from sexual topics, which is far from the case)The only sex scene we saw on cutie pie (between lian and kuea)was one of the most explicitly consensual ones ever in BL history, and even
if it wasn’t I wouldn’t mind because not all relationships portrayed in media need to be textbook ”healthy”. Some people actually enjoy power dynamics . Hia lian and kuea are fictional characters and grown men, they can take care of themselves and don’t need rescuing or whatever people are trying to do. Also Kuea was a fantastic sub in my opinion as he was not a doormat and gradually gained more and more agency in the relationship. And also equating dom/sub dynamics and kink with
toxic is deeply problematic , as well as seeing sexual coercion where there was none.
