I still think the series is going to happen. Jeff said it’s his passion project, and he also mentioned that…
Right? People have too much blind trust in Jeff imo. He is just a human being like anyone else, not some supernatural being who can make anything happen. Having passion and ideas are admirable, but they can only take you so far—you have to be able to execute them. Investors especially care very little about passion and are more concerned with commercial viability. The leap from making songs and MVs to long-form series storytelling is massive. I can’t help but feel like Jeff (and Mike) learned that the hard way😅
I have to say though, this is kind of a hard project to sweep under the rug after all that visibility. Fans will keep asking about it for sure….If Jeff does not give clarity this risks becoming baggage for him, his studio and indirectly also Bc.
I kind of hope Mandee learns something from it too because characters in their series played by more feminine…
Another thing that I feel is very limiting in many BL (not all)is that they assume prior attachment to the actor ship. As a result a lot of series do not develop the romance between the characters properly. But viewers like me who don’t watch this reality show stuff or follow off-screen interactions are often left feeling cold with the romance. We have no prior attachment so you can’t really take shortcuts with us. The romance has to feel earned and not just like something that happens because the actors happen to be locked in a ship. For example, I feel like you have to be really invested in ZeeNunew in order to like their series. The entrance barrier for casual viewers is very high. I guess my point is that BL could gain a much larger audience if they stopped assuming attachment and did the work in writing.
I can’t wait for this because most BLs are made basically for teens and comfort watching. Like dude, people who love genre fiction and are over 25 want gay romance too😅
What interests me most about this project is not just the story itself, but the fact that it is being produced…
I kind of hope Mandee learns something from it too because characters in their series played by more feminine presenting actors are often not written that well. For example, Nunew is basically always made to play the same character (although Zee kind of too so maybe it’s more of a problem of trying to sell the actor ship instead of creating compelling characters) Another thing is agency. Many feminine presenting characters in Mandee series are given little agency within the story and they often don’t come across as fully fleshed out individuals. Any character, regardless of how they present themselves, needs strengths and weaknesses, desires, hopes and fears. And I have to say, Namping’s character in Uke showed us 1000% more personality than anything else we have seen from him so far (which makes me conclude it is mostly a writing issue)
I still think the series is going to happen. Jeff said it’s his passion project, and he also mentioned that…
Please don’t take this the wrong way but the things you just said are actually very compelling arguments against the series happening. As for the rest of the year, both Jeff and Barcode are pretty much booked (Barcode will start shooting Kiss me remember soonish and Jeff wants to do a world tour later in the year)
I know many people were/are looking forward to this series, but it is best to lower expectations
One thing I’m a little bit concerned with when it comes to this is the acting. If the acting is not good it will distract from the message and themes. I’m not saying anyone in particular is a bad actor, but this series definetly requires everyone to give their A game. It will probably get a lot of mainstream viewers too due to Karn Sivaroj being the director, so the audience might not be very forgiving if the performances are not up to par.
The director is Karn Sivaroj Kongsakul, who did Master of the House, A Run Gaan, Girl From Nowhere: The Reset,…
Domundi really invested this year😮Now I’m super interested in seeing how other companies and channels will respond later in the year because the competition is really kicking off (uncensored CBL has entered the field and KBL is slowly waking up too). This is such a tremendous opportunity for BL/ BL-adjacent series to evolve to the next level. Who knows, maybe the label itself will lose importance one day if mm becomes more integrated into genre storytelling.
I have to say though, this is kind of a hard project to sweep under the rug after all that visibility. Fans will keep asking about it for sure….If Jeff does not give clarity this risks becoming baggage for him, his studio and indirectly also Bc.
