When the drama started, I didn't think I would get beyond ten episodes. I went back to it after reading the comments, and I don’t regret it. At the thirty-six episodes mark, 5,596 comments is a testament to the drama production.
In episode 35 Jiang He says that he will take Luo Zi Shang's life if he does bad things. (As if he were a saint).…
He is too cowardly to admit to Luo that he dumped the mother and child for greater ambition. Also, the plot is too far gone for Jiang He to ask for redemption. Luo went on a path of destruction, that Jiang He has to dissociate himself from.
LZS thinks that his father who abandoned him and his mother is GJS dad so he hates the whole gu family and wants…
The story about Young Yuru and Young Luo is so sad. Normally, this trope is used in dramas, to establish that the characters are fated to be together as adults. No wonder, Luo is fixated on Yuru. 🤣🤣🤣 Just like Princess is fixated on Jiusi for two decades. Someone said they played together as little children. 😆😆😆
Like father, like son! In a conversation between Jiang and Luo, Jiang He said, "We are very alike" , or something to that effect. It flew right over Luo's head... and Jiang He's. If neither man understood the hint, they are both daft. 🤣🤣🤣
i agree with the songs choices not being the best. some took away from important scenes like the reunion for example…
I have been complaining to friends about loud singing drowning the characters' dialog and loud BGM in C-dramas for four years. I have been watching C-dramas since 2016. I might not have noticed it in the beginning.
Loud singing overlaying the characters' dialog has been happening in K-dramas for a long time. I started watching K-dramas in 2005.
It felt as if I was watching a musical concert, and nobody was actually singing in the drama. 😏
I noticed that when I type a comment, it is posting a duplicate. Has this happened to anyone else? If I see the duplicate, I am deleting it... so annoying.
Sorry, if I already posted this comment. I am juggling comments between MDL and dramacool, and wanted to share this one.
We might be hoping that Mr Gu is alive since we never saw the body. I can't imagine that Luo would have any sentimental attachment to Mr Gu, who he thinks is his deadbeat father. If Mr Gu is still alive, Luo would have tortured him every day, for five years, just for the heck of it. He is planning to kill Jiusi, so the ultimate revenge would be to unite Jiusi with his wretched father, and kill them together. The man who annihilated the merchant industry might be insane to do so, but Luo has not displayed insanity yet.
I miss the subtitles of the songs at the beginning and end of the episodes. I like to remember what the song is…
Yes! If a song is playing during the credits, they should sub it. I think it would have more impact than juggling song and dialog, which they have to attempt to sync up. They translate it one time only, and it can play forty times (... or the total number of episodes).

The editor or the music supervisor seems to place the same song anywhere he wants, and the lyrics or tempo might not always fit the moment. I think the director has moved on, so no one is supervising them. I hate when they turn up the BGM when people are having a conversation.

Yes! When they comingle the subs of the dialog and song, you don't really know who's saying what. The songs are very pretty, but they are senseless when someone is talking.
Guess they'll keep this cauldron churning until the very end; with 4 episodes left they should be wrapping it…
Does this mean that Emperor Fan Xuan's reign lasted five years? Is that a record? If his dynasty ends with Fan Yu's demise, will the Zhou dynasty have a different name, or keep Da Xia?
If Liu Xue Yi wasn't in this drama, I wouldn't be watching it. But if I was watching and knowing the character's…
Like you, I delved into the drama because of Liu Xue Yi, even though he was not the main ML. I also knew Bai Jing Ting and Song Yi. I have seen more vile, despicable villains in costume dramas that I hated every time they had screen time, and wanted to slap their heads. I see Luo Zi Shang as a manipulator and a mastermind.
I have to comment on the quality of the production. The filler flashbacks have been minimal, as of episode 36. This is prevalent in C-dramas. The flashbacking was also rarely used. This gives this production high marks. The only flaw is the extraneous singing or BMG in the episodes at almost every turn. If the director kept the editor and music supervisor from music saturation, the production values would be in top 90%. With four more episodes to go, I have raised my overall ratings to 8.5.
Also, the streaming site should tell the subbers to refrain from subbing the songs every time. These songs are repeated in the episodes, and often overlay dialog, which makes the subbed dialog incoherent. Since they already subbed the song once, they don't have to do it every time. If they are playing two songs per episode, due to contractual obligations, the songs would be effective, overlaying the opening and closing credits.
I don't think Gaolang disliked Zhou Ye in the beginning because he was a concubine's son. I believe it was because…
🤣🤣 I could swear that someone in the earlier episode said ZY was not acknowledged as a son, while his other brothers were. I thought the others were legal sons, and he was an outside son. I was looking at Old Zhou's side profile in episode 35 or 36, and he looked like ZY. Good casting of the two actors!

I watch 98% C-dramas and 2% K-dramas, btw.
