It was unbearable for me at the beginning too and I went into this not liking Esther very much. Ended up being…
I watched when it first came out. Had been watching Cdramas since 2018-2019.
Her voice really grated on me at first but Iām a sucker for fantasy so I continued.
Eventually I accepted it as part of her character and noticed it lessened in intense childishness as the drama progressed.
I ended up loving this drama. Itās in my all time favorites.
Rewatching it now and Iām not bothered a bit by her voice.
Funny how things can change. Letting go of ingrained prejudices can be hard and some people Might not be able toā¦but imo doing so can lead to some wonderful experiences.
They both ick me out SO badly. Like, Jun isnāt bad looking and has some decent qualitiesā¦but he ruins all…
Right?
Omg, hadnāt gotten to the bday dinner scene yet.
The mom is UNBEARABLE.
Rude af about DYās employment position and place of origin.
Where TH does she get off being so high n mighty? Not like their family is rich, especially dignified, or her son has some stellar high paying professional career.
Now shesās shouting across the table being loud and dramatic?
No wonder DY bolted.
Frankly Iām shocked she went to Junās house for his bday at all.
Ugh. I donāt have a single nice thing to say about this crazy woman.
The dad doesnāt have much of a spine, but at least he seems like a more reasonable and easygoing person who only spies on his son to go along with his controlling wife.
I wish the writers wouldnāt make DY end up with Ju nā¦but we know thatās the plan. š®āšØ
Younger men with not much media literacy or understanding of how to form healthy relationships with women watch this kind of nonsense and take it to heart believing if they stalk, pressure, and coerce a girl she will eventually cave and theyāll have a happily ever after.
I was glad when DY told Jun off and laid out his unappealing issues. But now itās like that scene didnāt happen.
Maybe I should skip the scenes with Jun/his mom to preserve my sanityš„²
I can't stand Jun Cheng and his raggedy ass Mother
They both ick me out SO badly.
Like, Jun isnāt bad looking and has some decent qualitiesā¦but he ruins all of them with his creepy stalking, pushover mamaās boy shtick, not having a sense of whatās appropriate in public (shouting, touching over n over after being told no, and embarrassing DY with his extreme fan behavior), and ignoring his job to go talk to his mom.
Come on dude. No woman in her right mind is going to find that stuff attractive or acceptable.
Donāt get me started on his mom.
I have a 19yr old son and it makes me feel sick to imagine treating him like that, invading his privacy, and trying to control his every step in life. GAG. I could NEVER.
Donāt care what anyone says or how low they rate this drama.
The main couple is HILARIOUS and so wholesome.
I absolutely love them & their interactions.
Today watching him tuck her in, mimic her pouting in her sleep, and giving her the teddy to sleep with was adorable.
Then the debacle with his ruined shirt buttons and his sad attempt at sewing had me cackling.
Modern dramas arenāt usually my thing, but I donāt see myself getting tired of their dynamic or not wanting to see more of their love development anytime soon.
Very enjoyable so far and the leads are good! Iāve always like Hankiz and feel that she just needs one breakthrough…
For real. Sheās a very talented (and supremely gorgeous) actress who just hasnāt gotten the right project to fully break thru with.
First saw her way back as supporting actress in 2020 in Dance of the Sky Empire with Xu Kai & Wu Jia Li. She immediately caught my attention with her beauty & charm.
I had hoped Love in The Desert with Alen Fang would be the drama that finally drew more attention to her talent and set her up to become FL in higher quality dramas.
The sexual tension and attraction between him & Hankiz was off the charts! I thought they both did a fantastic job.
Unfortunately some unsavory plot points involving the 2nd couple really downgraded the experience for me overall.
I liked their acting as SFL & SML and thought they were well paired as a couple.,,but the story made them pretty unlikable and downright loathsome at certain points.
LITD wasnāt a bad drama at all. Still, it didnāt quite hit the threshold to become Hankizā breakout performance that would get her widespread recognition.
Really hoping this drama gets good word of mouth (and continues to be good quality) so she can finally become better known and appreciated as a n actress.
Iāve seen ML in Burning Flames & Dashing Youth. He was very good in both. He also had a decent small part in Moonlit Reunion.
He & Hankiz are almost too pretty togetherš But Iām not really complaining. Iāll continue to happily feast my eyes.
Hereās hoping the drama becomes a sleeper hit and gains them both new fans/better future prospects.
What?? Thatās far too many for my taste. If this is true he would only be truly special to her if she chose…
Seriously. 22 lovers across 400 years is NOT many at all.
Itās legit insane that anyone is criticizing her for this or saying 22 is ātoo manyā
Ffs.
Bunch of irrational purity culture fiends.
So she should never have companionship or romance in her 400 years?
Actually having 22 before DY and her not caring about any of them/ much/treating them as flings while solely treating DY with sincerity and true emotional investment is what shows how important he is/how he alone has her heart in all her 400yrs.
Sigh.
Maybe Iām just old (42), but imo itās gross and ridiculous to shame SM for having lovers across the centuries of her life.
22 is a very modest, reasonable number of romances to have across 400 yrs.
Her voice really grated on me at first but Iām a sucker for fantasy so I continued.

I think as a mom with a son Iām extra repulsed by her behavior.
It reminds me of those creepy self proclaimed āboy momsā.

For sure the dinner scene was also my last straw.
I legit didnāt think I could loathe her moreā¦how wrong I wasš
Iām in solidarity with u for skipping that nonsense from here on out.

He plays a masked Dr in Legend of Rosy Clouds.
Funny enough I guessed it was him just from seeing his eyes thru the mask.
He has very distinctive features and unique eyes.
He also has a special presence that came thru even though he wears a mask as Jiang.
I thought he was super hot in My Journey To You.
Love to see him get more exposure and higher quality roles.
But hey, Iām glad my words worked for you.
*im not actually mad, just shocked and amused.

I just started the drama and Iām already š®āšØ at his secret self-sacrificing.
Iāll look past my annoyance and general dislike of this trope because I adore Vengo Gao.
He stole my heart long ago as Dong Hua in Eternal Love & (even more) in Eternal Love of Dream.
The drama seems cute and not too heavy so far. Iāll keep watching.

They arenāt always paired with costars who can match their skill or gravitas.
Very excited to see them next to each other on screen.
I was agreeing with you, for sure.
I hope you can enjoy CDL in The Glory some day.
But for now, she is great in Veil of Shadowsš
Iāve been waiting for what seems an eternity for this one to air.
Although Iām enjoying Veil of Shadows, Iām a bit bitter that it was released before Hidden Shadow.
Come on Youku, give us our Li Hongyi fix already!!
Itās good to have this as your palate cleanser before The Glory.
She is not āniceā or sweet whatsoever in that role but her cunning and ruthless actions are warranted for her character.
Her role in VOS is much more easy to love, imo.
I find her range impressive.
While overall I enjoyed Fangs of Fortune, she wasnāt the main draw for me and I like her character in VOS (and TG) much better.
Sheās a great actress.
Itās a testament to her skill that her as YBC made her so widely reviled that many couldnāt stomach to watch her in another drama for years.
