It was after YXZ took the dragon marrow and became a demon hunter I presume. The brothers were on a mission to prevent Tiandi from being used against humans in the war like we saw in the illusion with LJ and YWH so they were pretending to be demons from Wu Zhiqi's clan.

They are humans, I think the pointy ears are from when they were pretending to demons from the green ape clan.

About the blood on the doll, I'm don't know either but I guess it'll be explained in the upcoming episodes.

So we (at least I) were under the impression that Ji Ling was suitable as a vessel for Dragon Deity because of the dragon marrow YWH gave Xizai but in today's scene he said that a lot of people died due to eating dragon marrow which suggests that it's a relatively common thing.

Also my original assumption would also be wrong because JL and YXZ only have the same face not the body.
