GJM said it's a love story, and PS is more of a concept of love—an interesting one, but not enough time to develop it. I'm sure only the basics from PS will be used. And the heartless fox demon may be a backstory for DG, one of his characters, where he loses his heart—his feelings at one point.

Yeah, that scene had a cool dark vibe, i liked it, but the scene with Rui shows way more depth than in PS. And GJM is building the story from Painted Skin, as I read here.
