Title Royal Betrothal Spoiler
I said that from the beginning and got cut down on here but it seems more agreed over time. Their pairing seems…
Oh, that too. I think for me, it's the officials rather than the girls in particular. It might be the first drama I see where the officials talk to the Emperor that way, and argue with him, or openly go against what he says. Like, I understand that they feel that they hold enough power that he can't do anything to them, but the extent to which they are showing off that lack of respect is quite something.

Title Royal Betrothal Spoiler
I am 11 episodes in and I don't know, perhaps it's just me, but - at the risk of being eaten alive - I have to say that the lack of chemistry between the main pair is just so jarring.

It's funny because both actors are doing just fine with their respective roles and their interactions with others are enjoyable but when it comes to a growing relationship between them, there's just no spark there in the slightest. The scenes where there is supposed to be tension, the actors go through the motions but there's nothing. The scenes when he's supposed to feel jealous - also fall flat.

I can't help comparing it to the only other Wu Jinyan's drama I've seen - The Double - and the difference is so huge. And it's a shame, really; it would only improve the drama if the main couple was more enjoyable together.

I'm very happy with Liang Yongqi's role so far, though. After seeing him play so many constantly, overly serious guys, it's a nice change to see him show that he's able to do more light and funny scenes just as well.

Public Service Announcement (Sorry to temporarily interrupt the mood): For those of you unaware about @Uvimolla…
That sounds like quite... something lol I had a good laugh, thank you! <3

I still feel like people on MDL pay too much attention to comments rather than trying the drama and seeing for themselves, and it unfortunately only gives food for trolls like this.

We've talked about this relationship yesterday, lol. Like you, I was also surprised the drama SHOWED Eagle King's…
Like I said, a part of me does find it nice that they showed a more human side to a guy that is supposed to be a villain. Elaborating on that a little maybe, as I tend to write my thoughts out as I watch the episodes rather than at the end, what I mean is that I like that the drama acknowledges that no matter which side the character stands on, they are still human and like any human, they have their own feelings and emotions. It is not something that is often acknowledged, especially when it comes to negative characters, but I like it exactly because it is realistic. Yes, someone may be an enemy, but at the end of the day they are still a person, who has a home, a family, and so on and so forth. And I'm not saying it's a bad thing that it is shown. At the same time, a different part of me feels like the plot - especially the whole Lejun thing - has had him a bit too mellowed, especially when it comes to everything that she has been doing, for what he was supposed to represent. But that is just my personal, subjective opinion.

Episode 28

Erm… They could have at least shown the Eagle King die properly…

Ziqi tinkering with mechanisms <3 Oh yeah, I too wonder who he might take after in that regard… lol

Xie Jiayu… Girl, come on, he’s not even trying to hide that he’s talking about nobody else but Xiao Wuyi lol

Don’t tell me she didn’t recognise him with that mask on… It doesn’t even hide his features all that well.

Memory loss, really? That would explain why they keep it away from Xie Jiayu that he’s still alive, I suppose, but ehhh…

“If I were to detain her, she will blow up the palace” hahahahahahahaha

Oh finally, Xie Jiayu, you’re finally starting to connect the dots. Took you long enough!
----

Oooof, what a journey this drama was, though I enjoyed every second of it.

Xiao Wuyi and Xie Jiayu got their happy ending – nice. I can’t deny, a part of me is a sucker for sad endings but happy ones are always nice to see.

I still don’t like Li Mao, and I’m not happy that he’s on the throne. But I can’t deny I’m very glad that they didn’t go the standard, typical, stereotypical route with him. And I obviously can't deny that they did not show any better candidate, unfortunately.

It was nice to see a glimpse of Ruisheng, Yuanji and Nanxing. I will forever be a bit sad that Xiao Yao didn’t get to be with Yuanji – but, as the drama has technically never outright said that they never got together in the future, that idea will definitely live in my head.

I loved Ai Mi in the role. Xie Jiayu is the first FL that I genuinely liked from the start to finish, and I think she did amazingly in this role. Xiao Wuyi is, in my opinion, Hou Minghao’s best role yet.

I genuinely wish for more dramas like this. Though, I will definitely come back to this again at some point in the future.

Title Key to the Phoenix Heart Spoiler
Episode 27

Are they trying to say that the Eagle King actually, genuinely cared – possibly in some twisted way – about Lejun? You’re supposed to be the villain, man! The big, bad, evil villain!

Though, at the same time, I’m unsure if I find it nice that they are trying to show a different side to the character, show that he too is a human with feelings and emotions, or if I feel disappointed by the fact that he did actually seem to care.

Should you guys be testing that right there? Aren’t you afraid the Northern Qin people are going to see that, especially if that’s going to be your point of surprise?

Ooooh, I see. They used that as an excuse to claim that Xie Jiayu escaped to reunite with Xiao Wuyi. Clever, clever.

XIAO YAO! <3 Okay, as happy as I am to see him – when did his leg get better? Lol

Ooooooh. I love that flashback on the battlefield when Xiao Ju remembers choosing to protect Xiao Wuyi over (I assume) his own son, and how this time he makes a different choice and chooses to protect his son.

Xiao Wuyi knocking Xiao Yao, being the one to do the protecting this time…

I’m definitely not crying here. *reaches for a towel*

Oooooh, that final battle between Xiao Wuyi and Eagle King. Niiiiice!

XDDDDDD Xie Jiayu throwing and breaking things while Li Mao just sits there was funny lol

I KNEW SHE WAS SUS! At first, I thought she was just jealous but her behaviour the past couple of eps was so off.

Eagle King is FINALLY being a proper villain. I still feel like he should be more villainous towards Li Lejun but oh well, maybe he’s just waiting for a good opportunity.

I’m not sure I’m happy with that way. Especially when she’s basically using herself to help Xiao Wuyi earn the guy’s trust and that’s kinda ruining it for me. I get it that everything she was doing may have been for her brother but she’s just getting on my nerves so much. I don’t even care if everything he has ever done may have been a plot or not.

Come on, Wuyi, release that arrow, please.

Li Mao, you’re lucky. I do hope EVERYTHING is just a scheme, otherwise I will find a way to jump into the story and personally make sure that you are dead.

Ziqi knocking someone out with acupuncture <3

I know nothing about metals and all that, I’m going to admit that, but how did such a huge token turn into such a small hairpin? Shouldn’t there be like a ton of material left? Lol

Eagle King appears to have swallowed everything. Now, the question is, how much he knows is fake and how much he genuinely believes.

At least the rest of the episodes are out. I’d probably go mad if I had to wait for the remaining three.

This is what I posted below:[ A possibility is that Li Mao is as serious as Xiao Wuyi on opposite sides. But when…
I don't want reconciliation lol I want Li Mao dead, preferably after seeing his sister dead, too. :)

Li Mao, you should make up your mind about Xiao Wuyi. You can’t eat the cake and have the cake.

I still find it such a shame about Xiao Yao and Yuanji T__T I still think they would make an amazing couple. Though, I’m also happy that Yuanji gets the recognition she deserves in the way she wants, so it’s not like I’m against that. Yes, I do feel like her pretending to be her brother may end up backfiring on her unless they give her a very good plot armour for that, but still.

Eagle King might be the villain in the drama, but I can’t help siding with him when it comes to Li Lejun. Actually, no – I think he’s actually too nice to her when it comes to everything she’s doing.

Xiao Ju, WTF. I mean, I’m not going to complain about him (hopefully) killing Xie Huaigui, even if I had hoped he would get a more satisfying death but WTF.

Ah, of course. Not only Northern Qin’s plot, but also Li Mao’s. You’re making it so obvious man, with the conclusions you’re supposedly drawing. This must be what the Eagle Wang was speaking about *nod nod*

Dude, you’re letting her down at every possible opportunity, what do you think lol

Xie Jiayu? :OOOO

Is it just me or is it very simple for Xiao Wuyi to justify his return to the capital with the army? The Emperor did say he would lend a hand when needed, and it would feel like the most reasonable thing to do, for him to claim that he ordered them back.

Don’t tell me they’re actually going to kill the Xiaos. If they do, I’m gonna be so angry…

And if the drama ends with Li Mao on the throne, I’m going to be the one to revolt.

If he knows Xiao Wuyi's, I'm inclined to believe he may be aware of Li Mao's too. He probably just can't be bothered…
I'm just guessing, though. I can totally be wrong :)

Li Mao, Li Mao... Even if he writes that letter, it’s not going to make Xie Jiayu enter the palace anyway.

Dude, how can you be surprised that people think you want Xiao Wuyi dead with everything you’re doing.

Hands off my Xiao Yao! Don’t even dare try to kill him!

Are they all seriously thinking Yuanji is her brother? Noone recognises her? She’s not even trying to properly look like a guy lol

T_____T Xiao Yaoooo T_____T I mean, better banished than dead but still T____T

Is that it for Xie Huaigui? I have a hard time believing that he will just happily go away. I guess we will see in the next few days.

Li Mao's fake actions are the calm before the storm.
I honestly don't feel like Xiao Wuyi bought it either. Or at least he shouldn't have with everything else. And I think he showed it in #22 :)

Episode 22

Of course, Xie Huaigui is going to be poisoning Li Mao even more.

I love how almost nobody is even surprised by what happened and the timing of the accusations and everything. And Xiao Wuyi couldn’t make it more obvious he knows exactly that Li Mao is behind it lol

Hahahahaha, Xie Jiayu just taking the document from Li Mao. Dude, are you really going to go the delusional route, believing that she holds any feelings for you still, both after everything that happened and what you are doing now?

LOL. I know that scene is supposed to be serious and all, but the “What do you mean by elderly?” in prison just made me laugh so hard.

A chance to choose again? Lol. No, really please, do not go down that road.

Never have I hoped more that a character would wake up and snap out of it than I do with Li Mao now. I really don’t want him to go down the typical road. I’m still thinking he will but hope dies last, they say.

Though, even if he does... I'm not sure anyone would be able to trust him again, and rightfully so.

Yuanji, you’re breaking my heart along with Xiao Yao’s T___T I’m not expecting a happy ending for them because the pairs I root for rarely get one, but you could have waited with crushing my hopes until last episodes lol

Damn, a part of me had been hoping for Li Lejun to have a very rude awakening upon meeting with the Eagle King and the guy not only not accepting her there but actually being anything but nice to her. I’m still expecting that to go in the direction, but it would be nice if she just had a bucket of cold water thrown at her.

TWO YEARS LATER? I figured there will have to be a bit of a time skip but I wasn’t expecting it to be so big.

I’m not sure I’ve ever seen anything more fake than all the gifts and promises that Li Mao offered to Xiao Wuyi and Xie Jiayu and their marriage lol And the dishes and everything lol

I don't think Yuanji is a spy for the empress, but more of forced by circumstances. But I guess we'll know more…
Yeah, that's what I'm thinking too. With the direction he's going in, he'll only get worse and there will be no return for him.

So either Xiao Wuyi is going to have a vey drastic change of hearts and take the seat, or they find some more distant relative to do so. Or they'll just use their power to place whoever they want on the throne lol

Episode 20

Am I evil for being a bit disappointed that they’re actually trying to save Li Mao? I have a feeling that they are going to regret it very, very, very soon.

Oh finally, it’s time to deal with the Empress. Hurray.

Wow, the Empress even poisoned her own son? And he actually knew? Father of the year is already awarded, I guess she’s the Mother of the year award candidate lol

Well, at least the Empress’ days are as numbered as the Emperor’s. BUT I STILL WANT THAT EUNUCH TO BE DEALT WITH.

Okay, Yuanji, you are now officially not married to Xiao Wuyi anymore. Time for you to get with Xiao Yao.

There is no brotherhood between us. Only subject and ruler. --> You may want to clarify who is the subject and who is the ruler, you know lol

Wait, what? The Emperor knows who Xiao Wuyi is? Now, that’s interesting!
