The fight between Li Changshou and Ao Yi was too funny, though. Both of them outdoing one another at pretending lol I wonder what Ao Yi's purpose is lol I'm sure it will be revealed soon.
I've only watched one episode so far but it confirms to me that Ao Ruipeng is much better at these less serious, comedy roles than he is at serious characters. And Ai Mi is so adorable in this one.
I just finished the drama and I can't say it was bad, I enjoyed it but I feel like I would have enjoyed it much better if the main couple was more enjoyable.
I genuinely couldn't care any less whether they are going to get a happy ending or not, I couldn't care any less about that pairing in general and it's sad, really. And it's not even because the actors were bad or anything like this, but their lack of chemistry just ruined the whole experience as far as that particular plot which, unfortunately, was one of the biggest and most important ones in the story. I honestly feel like it would have been much better if they didn't try to give some sort of a happy ending at all costs - I feel like they should have just left it at Meng Tinghui leaving, show her teaching the kids but without the ML being there as well.
The approach to the politics plot was also a bit weird to me. It's the first time I see a drama where the Emperor allows people to walk all over him, and I can't help finding it a bit jarring. Yes, I understand that he was putting up a front at first but they did not even try to put up appearances and I don't know. I have very mixed feelings about this.
I loved Liang Yongqi's performance, though. Honestly, this guy deserves more roles. He rocked both the silly, funny Yin Qing as well as the darker side that the character showed at the end.
Overall, it was a decent drama. It wasn't anything particularly special in my eyes, but it wasn't bad, either.
With every passing ep, I'm getting more and more suspicious of Yin Qing - ever since the first time he didn't tell them what he found right away and after #23, I'm quite convinced that he might be Shangguan Xiansheng. The fact that when the Blood Moon people have a meeting and he's suddenly not there makes it a pretty obvious hint that he must be someone from the group that went to the valley, and he's pretty much the only viable option in that group. And then we see Shangguan Xiansheng shoot the arrow at the Emperor, only to hit Meng Tinghui, and he clearly reacted to that too. Even Yin Qing coming to the Censorate was probably part of his plot to stay close to Meng Tinghui and keep an eye on her.

It's incredible that the country is struggling with so many things, and the only thing the officials have actually tried to change is getting rid of Meng Tinghui, getting rid of Meng Tinghui, getting rid of Meng Tinghui and getting rid of Meng Tinghui. You'd think they have no responsibilities other than coming up with all kinds of different reasons why she should be gotten rid of.
I really hope that in the end, they get what they deserve.

Oh, that too. I think for me, it's the officials rather than the girls in particular. It might be the first drama I see where the officials talk to the Emperor that way, and argue with him, or openly go against what he says. Like, I understand that they feel that they hold enough power that he can't do anything to them, but the extent to which they are showing off that lack of respect is quite something.
I am 11 episodes in and I don't know, perhaps it's just me, but - at the risk of being eaten alive - I have to say that the lack of chemistry between the main pair is just so jarring.
It's funny because both actors are doing just fine with their respective roles and their interactions with others are enjoyable but when it comes to a growing relationship between them, there's just no spark there in the slightest. The scenes where there is supposed to be tension, the actors go through the motions but there's nothing. The scenes when he's supposed to feel jealous - also fall flat.
I can't help comparing it to the only other Wu Jinyan's drama I've seen - The Double - and the difference is so huge. And it's a shame, really; it would only improve the drama if the main couple was more enjoyable together.

Like I said, a part of me does find it nice that they showed a more human side to a guy that is supposed to be a villain. Elaborating on that a little maybe, as I tend to write my thoughts out as I watch the episodes rather than at the end, what I mean is that I like that the drama acknowledges that no matter which side the character stands on, they are still human and like any human, they have their own feelings and emotions. It is not something that is often acknowledged, especially when it comes to negative characters, but I like it exactly because it is realistic. Yes, someone may be an enemy, but at the end of the day they are still a person, who has a home, a family, and so on and so forth. And I'm not saying it's a bad thing that it is shown. At the same time, a different part of me feels like the plot - especially the whole Lejun thing - has had him a bit too mellowed, especially when it comes to everything that she has been doing, for what he was supposed to represent. But that is just my personal, subjective opinion.
Erm… They could have at least shown the Eagle King die properly…

I still don’t like Li Mao, and I’m not happy that he’s on the throne. But I can’t deny I’m very glad that they didn’t go the standard, typical, stereotypical route with him. And I obviously can't deny that they did not show any better candidate, unfortunately.
It was nice to see a glimpse of Ruisheng, Yuanji and Nanxing. I will forever be a bit sad that Xiao Yao didn’t get to be with Yuanji – but, as the drama has technically never outright said that they never got together in the future, that idea will definitely live in my head.
I loved Ai Mi in the role. Xie Jiayu is the first FL that I genuinely liked from the start to finish, and I think she did amazingly in this role. Xiao Wuyi is, in my opinion, Hou Minghao’s best role yet.
I genuinely wish for more dramas like this. Though, I will definitely come back to this again at some point in the future.

Eagle King is FINALLY being a proper villain. I still feel like he should be more villainous towards Li Lejun but oh well, maybe he’s just waiting for a good opportunity.
I’m not sure I’m happy with that way. Especially when she’s basically using herself to help Xiao Wuyi earn the guy’s trust and that’s kinda ruining it for me. I get it that everything she was doing may have been for her brother but she’s just getting on my nerves so much. I don’t even care if everything he has ever done may have been a plot or not.
Li Mao, you’re lucky. I do hope EVERYTHING is just a scheme, otherwise I will find a way to jump into the story and personally make sure that you are dead.
