It is later hinted that Fan Changyu’s parents were not just ordinary butchers as everyone believed. Fan Changyu grows up thinking her family was simply running a butcher shop and living a poor but peaceful life. However, there are subtle hints that her father had a hidden past and might have known certain secrets connected to powerful people. Because of this, her parents eventually became targets. To silence those secrets and prevent the truth from spreading, they were killed when Fan Changyu was still very young.
This tragedy forced Fan Changyu to grow up alone and live a rough life while protecting what remained of her family. As the story progresses, it also becomes clear that the conspiracies surrounding Fan Changyu’s family and the destruction of Xie Zheng’s family are linked to the same corrupt power structure. In the end, both Fan Changyu and Xie Zheng are victims of the same political conspiracy, which is why their paths and their fight for justice become deeply connected.
