I might want to punch Kim's pretty face but his character is so fascinating to me and they should really devote more time to him and explore him further. Kim is the most fitting to be the boss and he is the most dangerous out of all. Yes even Vegas. There I said it. Kim is really smart, calculative to the point that he thinks twice before he makes a move, and does not let anything or anyone get in his way. When he sets a goal he focuses on that and does not let anything distract him. When he has set his priorites he won't let anything get in his way. His determination is almost unbreakable that even his feelings for Chay won't get in the way. Yes ,he cares for Chay, but he won't show it. He will turn the world upside down to keep Chay safe but won't put his feelings into words for Chay to hear. That is who he is. He is shaped like that because of the environment he grew up in . Kim knows how to seperate work from his personal feelings and actually maintains balance in his life that way.
His desire to protect Chay came to be one of his goals too since he developed feelings for him. He knows that there is no room for weakness in the world of mafia. He considers that Chay's safety is more important which is why he did not hesitate to speak harshly. His goal was to protect Chay and he did that, no matter the consequences. But Kim is human too, he has feelings and he is starting to miss Chay.
However, Kim at least as shown until now, does not get carried away by his feelings the same way Kinn and Vegas do. Kinn left his house to stand by Porsche's side and Vegas left the safehouse in an attempt to reunite with Pete again. He even wanted to start over with him. Which brings me to another point.
Vegas and Kinn are motivated by external forces. Kinn was forced to play the role of the boss, a responsibility that was forced upon his shoulder by his father, without him having a say in it. He admittted to Porsche in the past that he just does what the family expects of him. His motivation is expectations Vegas always has tried to mess with the main family in an attempt to win the approval of his father. Kan all his life has been trying to beat Korn, and he forced that desire on Vegas. Vegas has grown to be jealous of Kinn because of his constast comparison to him by his father. He thinks that if he beats Kinn his father will finally approve of him and recognize his worth. All he wants is to be seen by his father, he wants to please him and get his approval. Vegas' motivation is love and acceptance.
Kim on the other hand is not motivated by any external forces. He has not any responsibility on his shoulders like Kinn does, no one expects anything from him. He does not need anyone's approval like Vegas. He does not feel the need to please anyone. The only reason he took actions and started investigating was because he wanted answers for himself. He wanted to satisfy his own curiosity. Also, judginng by his actions, it seems he does not really trust his father which is why he does things in secret. He is not blinded by his feelings or relations to others, he will doubt everyone and everything if it is needed.
There is no denying that a motivation coming from within is stronger than motivation that stems from external forces or needs. Once Kinn and Vegas' needs are met they have no motivation to continue as they used to do. Kim differs in that because he only does things for himself.
The first day Porsche arrived at the mansion and Pete talked to him about the three brothers, Porsche described Kim as selfish. His remark makes sense if you think about it. Kim is the one who is the most disnonnected from the family, but not because anyone excluded him, it is his own choice and he only comes back when he has something to gain. Even Tankhun misses him and points out that he only comes back when he needs something. Kim does not trust his father, he wants to keep his distance from his famly that is connected to the world of crime, that is why he created ''Wik'' , his other side that allows him to escape the crime world. But, no matter what ,it is not easy to leave the mafia wolrd behind, he keeps coming back to it. A part of him belongs there and that is Kim. Kim is a side of him that can not be thrown away or seperated from him. Kim needs both of his sides to keep living, he has the need to escape the filthy world he grew up in but at the same time he can not abandon his nature, the world he originally came from. And that is how Kim maintains a balance between his two worlds and selves. He does not deny either side and no side takes precedence over the other.Kim and Wik co-exist inside of him.
HAHAHAHA, that scene was iconic!
