I totally see your point, but I think it was meant in a way, that when someone says they're bipolar, a lot of people think they're literally "crazy" which is not true, that is my take on it, personally. Also, I think he didn't know she was bipolar as he took the meds too and thought she "only" has anxiety/depression.
