Thumbs up to ML?? Thumbs down to FL??
I must say Jo Jung Suk's portrayal as the king was impressive. On the other hand, Shin Sae Kyeong's was below his level. There was no chemistry between the two leads. I don't think the FL fully embraced her role as the king's beloved. Her acting was not credible enough to make one feel that she actually was in love with the king. It felt forced. Even the moments where they kissed felt awkward. To have picked her as the FL was a mistake. She just didn't fit.Was this review helpful to you?

"Captivating The King" does everything, but captivating. HAHAHA'Hee Soo has loved playing baduk since she was little, but since women back then were not treated as equals, she dressed up as a man in order to do so. Then, she met Jin Han when he was still just a prince and they instantly connected. The two started playing baduk together and Jin Han ended up falling in love, thinking that Hee Soo was really a man. Time passed, her father was framed for a crime he didn't commit and it was all because of Jin Han, who used his brother's death to take the throne and become king.
Hee Soo is a character who made no sense. She entered the palace to take revenge on the king, but she literally did nothing, just remained madly in love with him and forgot everything she had planned. Usually, in stories like this, there is always a misunderstanding between the characters, but this is not the case. Jin Han is actually guilty, everything that happened is his fault. In conclusion, Hee Soo is a stupid woman who can't control herself.
This was one of the most popular dramas in that year, but for me it was simply bad in every way. A couple with no chemistry and a confusing story.
I love Jo Jung Suk, but even he doesn't make it worth it. Shin Se Kyung is a beautiful woman, but she is not suitable for romantic dramas, she is terrible at them.
