She does a mixture of Science Fiction and Fantasy. :) I enjoy all of her books, but her Dragonriders of Pern novels are my favorite.

I haven't read the manga yet, but I will eventually. I enjoy the dramas, but I know what you mean. I've seen some dramas based on manga that could have been a lot better if they had stuck to the manga.
