There’s a lot going on behind the lines of what the characters say and portray . All these characters have underlying intentions for him. His grandmother absolutely loves him but there’s a reason she’s behaves cold to him. Watched it multiple times on different platforms as well as watched explanations on YouTube to understand it better since I am not a native speaker.

You can watch avenueX explain the poetry and play on words on joy of life. I got a better appreciation after doing so. Otherwise, it went over my head. Also I found the Viki Eng translation better than YouTube’s

Agreed! I just finished it but it definitely should not be used as a replacement of the original. I am very impressed by the actor Yu Xiao Wei who played Shen Zhong (the northern guard head). Such a good performance as a villain. The other actors are great too, just that I noticed this guy túi time around.

I thought I didn't have to watch JOL again since I finished the OG just last year and watched it twice! However, now that I'm watching the SE, I am seeing more details (expressions, reactions, heartfelt conversations, jokes) that I didn't catch the first two times around! Example - Uncle W's expressions that give away who is is. The Gundam reference. I guess I'll find even more if I watch it a 4th and 5th time. hahahaha...

JOL and FSM are two different genres. I am highly anticipating BOTH of them! JOL because of the amazing acting, mental games, subtle expressions, humor, Chinese word plays and homonyms, great action choreography, and OST. FSM because of my favorite actors, romance, CGI (I hope), and beautiful people who (in my opinion) can act.
