Yes, they both are at fault as far communication. But no doubt Jinqi's offenses so far are more egregious. His story will be one of growth in this regard - what it truly means to respect every individual, including the woman you love. So far the writing has been pretty solid, so I'm hopeful when they finally come together as a true couple, it will feel earned.

I think she'll have a hard time succeeding though and realize his point of view too (that to go against these crazy powerful people, you may have to use fire against fire so to speak). What I liked about this conversation/fight was that they were multiple layers to it. It starts as him assuming she despises him because of Scholar Han but ends with that cutting explanation of what exactly she despises him for in his actions of forcing marriage.
Hopefully the show will show them learning and growing together (Jinqi has a lot more to do on his part in my opinion) and not resort to weird tropes/cliches.

It’s all there in the drama. She wasn’t “ok” with working in the Lin family - she was forced to and made the best of the situation. Luckily she got along with the other maids there.
While she did not have romantic feelings for Han - he was by all means a suitable match for her and her social status at the time. The fact that their 2 families got along well was also a plus.
She harbors so many mixed feelings regarding the Lin family - mostly resentment at their rejection of the Shen family, which led to her whole family dying. While she can recognize that Lin Jinqi is an upstanding young man, she at this point has no feelings for him and certainly no desire to marry him.

Yeah it happens unfortunately more often than you would think. In the meantime just have to look ahead to future projects and be pleasantly surprised when it finally airs.

I’ll always hope to see this one because it’s a chance to see Deng Wei in a non-fantasy and more grounded political period drama.
C drama land is always unpredictable. Maybe just maybe we’ll hear more about this in the months to come. There’s always Scream Night…
