He did not die to free Xue Fangfei. He died because of greed--he wanted everything he thought he deserved, including his past happiness with XFF. He did not kill her so that she could come back to do all those wonderful wifely things HE had enjoyed, before becoming a dog, with some other man. He'd thought XFF would switch her love back when HE was the powerful one, when HE held all the cards, when HE called the shots. He totally ignored the fact that he'd smashed her head with a shovel and buried her alive to advance himself, LOL. Even in death, he didn't truly understand Wanning's explanation of his character to him: that he would kill XFF to live while Xiao Heng would die for XFF. SYR died, not to atone his sins, but to show XFF he could still control her, get her acknowledgment that she cared. She did not.

Yay! Thank you. This way, we who love these kind of stuff can return to it to add or reread!

The director also freakin love SYR to death. I mean literally...until his death, his camera was obsessively on that man LMAO.

I would like to explain a bit about Ah Li's and Jiang Li's name and the mix up about the nicknames and people thinking it meant leopard.

Jiang Li's LI is written as pear. That's why you see the flowers. Coincidentally Fang Fei's nickname is A'Li, written like a civet, which resembles a Raccoon-like creature with spots like a leopard (go look with search engine of choice). Both words/names sound alike.

SO IN EPISODE TWO,
our Duke Su had in his possession, Fang Fei's pendant. It has the face of the civet and her nickname is written on it. That's how he knew to call her A'Li. BUT THEN HE INSINUATED MORE. He called her a civet and it's in reference to a famous story (and you know our Duke loves a good story) in which an evil empress exchanged a concubine's baby with a civet. XFF was startled because he was implying that he knew she was a replacement, a fake; she hadn't been prepared for this man to be that smart.

So the civet nickname fit the whole story--her fate, his suspicion and her personality (because she IS like that civet!)

I thought so too and then she looked up at him at the man who also said he "loved" her and the comparison to the man by her side--Duke Su now standing same level, side-by-side and the latter's gaze of deep pride and love.

A transplanted shrub, depending on how big and how fast it grows, takes about one to five years to bloom. In the novel, it was five years, so I'm guessing here too? But let's say, 1-5 years and then after that the extra five minutes episode's timeline is at least five years of their marriage AFTER his return, if you count that they were married before he left. But that's fuzzy math, haha.

There are others, just not shown. The bad guy, Cheng, said, "She's the empress most favorite," etc, etc.
