Wang Kar Wai is famous for not caring about the plot in his works. He's all about evocative mood through camera work/angles and lighting. He's also very good at suggestive placement of items, like a motive of mirrors or some other object repeated through scenes. #movieminorInCollegeHAHA

I said the same thing in the beginning. I like LYR (he was in LLTG with LuSi, second lead!) but as I kept watching, I saw more chemistry. I think WAY held back in the beginning to show their youth, Gu Jin seeing her merely as a hatchling he helped hatch, then as a sect sister. The moment he started to wonder why he kept thinking of Ah Yin and protecting her, though, his demeanor shifted a little, and WAY's acting showed this.
But you're right, if you're going to act with Zhao LuSi across from you, you'd better bring your A game.

You should find that entire thing and watch it, they spent the whole time playing with the filter and it was hilarious. I was cracking up with them.

No, his powers have been sealed and will remain sealed for half the episodes. After that, he made a SPOILER sacrifice and his power is limited (unknown to everyone, ala BaiJue way of doing things). This drama is very muted when it comes to power stuff. The main protags are very young immortals (several hundreds years old) coming into power as they grow up and being taken advantage of by the older and corrupt immortals. The four Scooby Gang will end up being the most powerful gods/goddesses/queens/kings of the realms but it'll take some time--lots of angst and pain and sacrifices and loss...xianxia stuff. The young immortals theme seemed to have flummoxed many viewers who couldn't take innocent, naive and relatively powerless protagonists to follow, so not sure what your taste is about this. I, for one, enjoyed their journey through happy, anguish and grownup and finally, HEA, times.
