Hmmm... "It's all so silly yet the show desperately wants to be taken seriously." Who says the show "desperately"…
True! ☺️

This show started as a solid 9 for me, but now it's at a 7 (and it might drop even further). It's so unrealistic.…
not to mention, the King is supposed to be both careful and calculated as he directs the secret inquisition, but also reckless and immature as he loses his temper repeatedly... those are two different people, lol. there's almost no internal consistency. ahhh, let me change my rating to a 6 now 🤣

This show started as a solid 9 for me, but now it's at a 7 (and it might drop even further).

It's so unrealistic. The King had no compelling reason to stake his nation on a cooking competition, and then that horrible plotline dragged on for 2-3 episodes. He knows he's being sabotaged internally but still has lax security for his biggest prisoner. She knows he's being sabotaged, yet none of them passed on the warning from the Ming chef. Matter of fact, she knows that Consort Kang is super dangerous, but she purposely antagonizes her in that episode where the King is eating with his uncle.

It's all so silly yet the show desperately wants to be taken seriously.

This competition storyline is unfortunately killing so much of the pacing and tension that the writers had skillfully built up over the first 6 episodes. It's so unfortunate to build something so well and then just have it fall apart.

I like that they developed the male cook's (Maeng?) character and finally had him pick a side. It set some things in motion that I'm hoping will pay off in the future.

And the food reactions are probably the best part of the show. Props to the creative team for always coming up with new ways to show the experience, but the Peking duck was my least favorite by far.

A blind test should’ve been done in the competition. The voting is so unfair considering that both nations have…
exactly. everyone would just vote for their own person. it makes no sense for the envoy to vote for the FL, because he's literally plotting to kill the king so why would he ever admit her food was better? and of course the king is falling in love with the FL, so why would he ever vote for the other side? the writers have set it up so that anyone voting against their own team is an unrealistic outcome, and if they do make the envoy vote for Joseon then it'll feel like cheap writing to work themselves out of a fix.

I wonder how we tolerated 20 episode K-drama back then where story was Too draggy.Nowadays ppl r so impatience…
You're assuming everyone has the same interest level as you. Even the shows that you consider "too draggy" as you say has fans who loved every minute and even would wish it was longer. It all depends on how personally captivated you are by a story.

It feels very morally righteous to decide everyone who doesn't love a story the way you do is looking for instant gratification...

I'm not sure why this is hard for you to understand, but you can enjoy a show without liking every single story arc in it. You seem to want to bother me for having a different view and I don't like, so please stop speaking to me now.

I'm glad you're enjoying. I definitely feel like it's dragging and tired, and I'm looking forward to finally moving on with the story ☺️

I see what you mean, but I still think the competition format is boring now and I'll cry if there's a third one. 🤣 I think there are other ways to introduce different characters, cultures and recipes without defaulting to competitions, especially when the competition drags out over multiple episodes like this one.
