She was about to be married! how the hell were they broken up for over a year? FL was way too passive with her ex and wishy-washy with ML's feeling.
the drama as a whole annoyed me, I was expecting a good rom-com after seeing the trailer, but was super disappointed. both LND and no gain no love were massive disappointments, but I guess I can't expect every drama to be a masterpiece like Loverly runner😍

PS: let's say that you're right and he didn't cheat, they were also broken up for over a year, then why wouldn't she set any boundaries with him? why is she going out with him and not even outright telling him to fuck off when he was ignoring her telling him to stop, she looked like a meek scardy cat. She also could clearly see that his presence was bothering and hurting ML and she chose to not do anything about that, she even kept her ex in ML's office that he was lending her even after he said that he didn't want her ex there.

1000% agree, it was more of a melodrama rather than a rom-com, and you could easily tell that they didn't have enough material for their run-time and had to stretch and drag every scene like keeping the ex's at center stage for so long.

How were those minimal? minimal is concluding and getting rid of the ex in an episode max, and I get that they were engaged, but she presumably saw him cheat, what more is there to talk about? in my opinion that was a wrong choice made by the writer cuz if she only got out of a super serious relationship like a week ago, then she wouldn't jump into a new one with her best friend that quickly, that makes no sense.

The truth is that they stretched it because they didn't have enough engaging material for 16 episodes.

I dropped at 8, could not take the wishy-washy attitude of the FL and the annoying ex for a second longer.

The chemistry was lacking in a major way, ML was a lot better at it but FL's scenes and actions failed to convey her feeling for the ML, it felt like they got together cuz the script needed them to be together.
FL was quite bland too, she was also quite wishy-washy in telling her ex to back off, and it hurt the ML for several episodes, the ex was a prominent nuisance for 3/4 episodes.
FL's mom is also an annoying, abusive wife with a major inferiority complex and zero redeeming qualities.
The OST and the background music is quite bland too, and it fails to convey the levity or seriousness of the scenes.
All in all it's a melodrama advertising itself as a romcom, but it has very little rom and very little com, for it to be called that.

It's been a while but from what I remember it was automatic, there was a time limit to how much she could stay in the past.

by then it was too late, I had already checked out, FL treated ML like a doormat during that whole situation with her ex that for some reason took 3/4 episodes to resolves, irl if I see someone I'm interested and have told my feelings and intentions to, still hanging and talking like FL was with her ex, I'll run for the hills, that is such an obvious red flag.

the drama by then started to feel soap-operay, overly draggy just to reach a set number of episodes, not something I enjoy watching so I dropped it.

Because the screenwriter thought she knew better than the original author.

that's the feeling I got, but go look at the drama's genres and nowhere can you see any mention of melodrama.
the whole FL hesitating to let got of her ex left a bad taste in my mouth, you might try to justify it with guilt or a sense of obligation but what I call it is a lack of passion and feelings for the ML, to me it felt like she chose the ML cuz the script dictated it, it didn't feel natural, it didn't feel organic, she never showed any emotions for ML to justify their relationship. we kept seeing ML's passion and feelings for her but we never got any from FL.

It would have been better if FL read the letter in secret and thought over it and by discovering ML's feelings she found herself drawn to him more and more and then we get the ex, if we could have gotten that then yeah it would have been much better.

I understand slow-burns, I watch Cdramas regularly and can take slow-burns easily, as long as the story has some meat and there is some measure of a chemistry.
I skipped a head and even after they get together, there isn't much of a chemistry or passion to speak off.
And I get that she was dealing with residual feeling, but she had to consider ML's feelings too, he had already confessed and he kept seeing them together without an answer from FL, she kept him on ice to be used later(at least that's the feeling I got).
Also you've said it's a melodrama but nowhere in the genres or tags can you see melo.
