Hate to break it to you but there are a lot of abusive relationships which include romance. The abused partner is usually too 'in love' with the abuser to actually see the toxicity of the relationship and thus not report it to the police. So yea, it does fall under romance even tho its toxic :)

If you think life is full of flowers and butterflies you're hugely mistaken. Not all series are going to portrait perfect relationships. What she wrote actually happens in real life and nobody said that's what ONLY happens. If its not your cup of tea, then simply don't watch :)
