Don’t Read The Book First
I found A Splendid Match to be visually stunning and very well-acted. It did its best to adapt Liang Chen Mei Jin, and it introduced me to a new First Male Lead. However, in my opinion, A Splendid Match fails to stick the landing in the end. I’m not sure if it’s the 40 episode limit, or the decision to turn a plot line that was a Tragedy of Empire into a Hero’s Journey. Either way, the back end of the show left a bit to be desired. Especially if you’ve read the novel.
I would still recommend it to Romance lovers.

Relatively good
I enjoyed the book, so, for the most part, I enjoyed the show the show because it was relatively faithful to the original story. The changes ranged from understandable to unnecessary, and sometimes the script couldn't really commit. However, the actors were pretty great and I liked the OST. Overall, I thought that the show was relatively okay. Considering the show was based on a novel by the same author as the story behind The Double, I would recommend this show simply to show that the author is capable of relatively light works. Was this review helpful to you?
Very Well Done
Though you will definitely every moment of those 3 hours, this was a very well done micro drama. And the cinematography is very good considering the medium. Definitely worth the watch. You get to grow with the family and watch them face everything together. I’m usually very partial to the romance, but I think it worked very well with the family setting. The drama wasn’t too out of hand, but I think I’ll be grateful that nobody was plotting a murder.
My music rating is low because I watched it on YT, and rewatch is low because I just finished it.

My Gosh
I usually try to avoid Revenge dramas, but something made me finish this one.Xu Wan Er's story really didn't need to be so complicated had her sister bothered to tell her the plan. Also, one of the reveals was pretty obvious (imo) from like 20-30 minutes in.
That being said, I found this short drama to be worth the watch. The revenge is beautiful, but there is still very much a romance going on. There is also the fight between justice and familial honor. You could see (especially toward the end) the internal turmoil that Zhao Yan's grandmother had to deal with to balance the two, and I think her last scene spoke to that.
Definitely worth the watch, especially since it's barely 4 hours altogether.
