Who is Big Mouse?

Big Mouth is a crime/thriller/noir drama about Park Chang Ho, an average lawyer, who suddenly gets framed for being the infamous swindler Big Mouse (BM) – whose identity is unclear. As all evidence is pointing towards him, he is sent to prison, facing all the criminals BM betrayed.

The Bad Part:
I hated the first episode. It's your typical introduction episode, introducing the characters and building up the story. I dislike such episodes since I find them incredibly boring. I prefer starting with a bang. So, I skipped a lot in this episode and was about to drop it, but something in the cliffhanger grabbed my attention, and I decided to at least give it a second chance – and watch ep 2 too, not expecting much.

The Fun Part:
The second episode changed everything. I got hooked immediately. The Main Lead, now in prison, decided to get himself killed as he saw no way out of his unfortunate situation. But instead of getting killed, his provoking attitude gained the respect of other inmates, lol. You can't believe how much and how hard I laughed in those few episodes. It was so much fun and I got hella excited. The story also started to get interesting.

The Interesting Part:
Soon everything calmed down and the drama got very intriguing. In order to survive among these criminals, ML started to pretend to be Big Mouse for real, climbing to the top. His whole character changed. While he was an average nice guy and loving husband before, he now had to be strong willed, violent, smart and badass – making a 180 degree turn. And I absolutely loved it. So, after all, this boring and average lawyer had a whole lot of courage inside him. Because that is what it takes to change your attitude from good to bad in front of everyone, and stand eye to eye with the prisoners.

There was a lot of stuff going on throughout the drama. To clear his name, ML also (with the help of his wife outside) tried to find out who the real Big Mouse is. While searching for the truth he came across lots of things, like fight for power, conspiracies, secret labs, crimes, two-faced people, and a whole damn network, etc etc. One clue was Seo's paper that lots of people were after. So what is written in there? Why was he framed, and by whom? Who is real and who is fake? What is even going on? WHO IS BIG MOUSE?

The guessing game about the real Big Mouse was so much fun. But the reveal was not as spectacular as I hoped. Mainly because lots of suspects got cleared one after another, not leaving THAT much options. But the road to the reveal was very entertaining. All the theories me and other watchers came up with… that was definitely worth the watch haha.

My Likes:
So, you probably noticed by now that I really loved the story and the guessing game. And I also loved how prison shaped ML to be a whole different (but sexy lol) person. I especially liked the background music, a lot. I also started to grow on most of the characters. Park Chang Ho, Ji Hoon, Warden Park and Jerry were my absolute favourite characters here! And the whole gang, ya know. While I first thought Lee Jong Suk would not be the best choice for this role, he surprised me with his acting big time.
The final resolve was a little bit easy and maybe a bit fast, but it was also kinda understandable. The actual ending was awesome tho!

My Dislikes:
I first disliked MLs wife, Miho, for being a pretty cliché character straight out of a romcom. I liked her role and character in general, but I just didn’t really love her personality – I found her rather bland and boring. Maybe it was the acting, or idk. I might have preferred a different actress. BUT after like… half of the drama, I started warming up to her. Though, sadly, I never felt their chemistry at all. Even though I never skipped her scenes, as they were important for the story, I was honestly a bit glad she didn't have too much screentime. That’s just my personal opinion tho.

All in all, the drama turned out to be very intriguing and kept my attention the whole time (leaving out ep 1 lol). It did not drag at all. One of my favorite dramas of 2022 for sure!
