ONE OF MY BIGGEST COMPLAINTS. It bothered me SO MUCH is how victims/culprits would be SEVERELY injured/brutally beaten up with a bunch of bruises and GASHES all over their face and arms. But after a couple days (in drama time), the victim is shown on screen completely unblemished with no bruises or gashes, not even any bandages. This was the case throughout the drama and it was such an obvious detail.
In the first case, which was the domestic abuse case, we see the female victim brutally beaten and thrown around by her boyfriend the first time. And you can see in the scenes when she is talking to her parents over the phone just how badly bruised up she is. But how is it that these wounds MAGICALLY healed up PERFECTLY with no scarring or anything not even a month after???? Sis literally had a massive gash on her head.
The second time she is brutally beaten up by her boyfriend, she has even worse looking gashes and bruises, but not even a couple weeks after, they've magically healed as well. ?-?

There were also a few things the drama seemed to quickly wrap up without exploring more in depth. The most glaring question is what happened to the original Kang Bitna. We do find out what happened to her and why she got stabbed, etc. But why was she accidentally sent to Hell and why was she a "sinner"? We never find out more about the original Kang Bitna other than the scenes leading up to her death and the epilogue of the first episode where she's sent to a Hellscape running for her life. I was waiting for more continuation on this scene, possibly in epilogues of future episodes, but they literally shoved that scene in and forgot about the original Kang Bitna. We're sort of left wondering what exactly happened to her. Did she escape Hell? Did she somehow go back to Heaven? It feels almost as if the only explanation for this episode 1 epilogue scene was to introduce Gremory because she gets sent to Earth as punishment for letting Kang Bitna "escape".
This kdrama felt pretty fast-paced. They typically spent 1-2 episodes going over the crimes and victims, and the deaths were BRUTAL. TRIGGER WARNING: There is an EXTREMELY brutal domestic abuse case right from the onset of this drama and it's extremely bloody. Most of the deaths/torture in this drama will be extremely violent and VISCERAL.
Even as a major true crime fan, some of the scenes were too much for me. I physically cringed and had to skip over some scenes.
Overall, I think this drama had enough questions to leave me curious for more, which is why I completed the drama. However, if you're looking for a quality, well thought-out plot... I don't think this is the drama for you. Sometimes, it felt like this drama was solely made so you could see Park Shin Hye kick ass, and see perpetrators who do AWFUL crimes and say such awful things get subjected to the tortures they inflicted on certain victims. The villains don't have any depth to them. I think some side characters are flushed out just enough but often times, it is mostly done to get the plot moving and unveil more information.
I will say that the landlady was the character that surprised me the most. There was actually a deeper backstory to her and her acting was impeccable. (Tho in some scenes, I was sorta like girllll but for most of it, I felt such strong emotions in the later scenes involving her.)

Prosecutor ML was at the courthouse because he was prosecuting the drug use charges against the celebrity. South Korea has very strict laws on drug use which can destroy a person's career, so in order to draw attention away from the charges, the celebrity goes on hiatus/does military service. For his military service, the celeb ends up being stationed at a different department in the countryside where FL lives.
Prosecutor ML transfers back to the countryside to investigate a series of murders that date back 20 years. (You will learn why as you continue watching.) The Prosecutor ML and the celeb end up working in the same office building and cross paths with the FL when she joins the department as an older version of herself.
Jin fan had already passed a lot of his powers yin yang or whatever they call it in Chinese. I don't remember…
Latter half of episode 22, I went back to check and it was only Yue Gongzi who passed his internal energy to GZY, Jin Fan was just standing there. He was then ordered to get the flower but ran into Shangguan Qian, which is why he started fighting her. Her superior joined in after. Yue Gongzi heard them fighting and went as backup to help out.
There are somethings the show itself explains.Like, Jin Fan get defeat by Shangguan Qian because: he was fitting…
I understand that he was fighting two powerful people and had to protect the flower but I still found it a little bit hard to believe that he could get beaten up that badly. He was the youngest Red Jade guard and was built up as this powerful fighter, so I was disappointed he was almost killed.
I also recall the Wangs switching tactics that played against their weaknesses but I still think it's hard to believe that he struggled that much to defeat him when he was supposed to be the strongest in the Gong family. All the Wangs were wary of him. The Gong family is supposed to be this extremely powerful family but it took only 4 people (and the brides) to kill so many people.
I also know that the Gong family had other members who hid in the tunnels.
My issue is with the character buildup and lackluster climax. They described the Gong family as this impregnable fortress and described how powerful each family within the Gong family is. It took Wu Feng DECADES to gather intel on the Gong family and plant spies. They even have hidden families in the Back Hill (I know there used to be 12 but now there are only 3 left because of the first time Wu Feng stormed them the first time). You would think with a setup like this, it would've taken a lot more than 4 Wangs and a few Chis and Meis to take on the ENTIRE Gong family.
I really really liked this drama but now I'm on episode 23 and I'm just... the amount of plotholes afterward is INSANE? Like everything fell through despite such a strong beginning.
How was Jin Fan somehow defeated by freakin Shangguan Qian???? Like I remember she was able to defeat Yun Weishan but I was just assuming that Yun let Qian defeat her cuz later on, the courtesan at the brothel who turned out to be a Wang (3rd highest rank) said she didn't believe Yun could be a Chi (lowest rank). Even Qian was like you must be a Mei, so I assume Yun is quite capable (outside of her intelligence). Yun Weishan mentioned that Jin Fan was probably not even using 30% of his true strength when they fought, so clearly Jin Fan should've been much stronger. Even Yuanzhi got beaten up quite bad by Jin Fan.
Also, isn't Shang Guangjue really strong? How did he barely manage to defeat that Wang guy when he was also fighting that guy with Yuanzhi???? Didn't the Wangs say they were terrified of his strength and that he was basically their equal?
Also, how did the Hua elder die so easily? Like I get the swordsman was really strong but in wuxias the elderly are known for their strength. Plus, the last trial was literally the most difficult trial and so is the sword technique that even Zi Yu's father only managed to understand just a little bit of.
How is the Gong family known for being powerful when they literally have no one in the family???? Like it's just the main cast and that's it???? Whereas Wu Feng literally has hundreds of spies at their disposal. And shouldn't the entire household be filled with a bunch of secret weapons and traps? Like even the regular outpost (in ep 1 or 2 when the bald guy who is Qian's superior killed that guy at the pharmacy) contained secret weapons.
I'm super disappointed :( The climax literally fell so flat because of inconsistencies in everyone's strengths.
I didn't understand why everyone was shetting on this second part so bad while watching the first 2 episodes. But damn. They literally ruined the entire drama with this ending. They ruined all the sacrifices made in that heart wrenching ending of the 1st part like that. I'm literally so pissed. Why did they dishonor the memories from part 1 like that? WHY?
I absolutely loved the first 40 episodes. Military dramas are my absolute favorite, and this one started very…
Yeah, I also found the last 4 episodes confusing because it seemed more like something that should've happened earlier on. But I can also see how it doesn't fit with the main plot line which is finished by episode 40-ish. I'm guessing the writers were super ambitious and wanted to expand the show's meaning outside of just China, so they wanted to include more things that typical C-military dramas wouldn't include. I was also sad about Bai Long but it is in character with his upbringing, after all, he didn't really receive much of an education.
I also like to think of the last 4 episodes as extra content for fans who can't let the show go just yet.

Are you joking right now? A lot of romance kdramas may place more emphasis on the female perspective because romance kdramas are largely geared toward females. It's called catering to your audience.
I don't even understand why you've written this comment because this drama shows a relatively equal balance in the gender dynamic. Both the FL and ML are hard workers in their own rights and help each other out whenever either is in trouble. They are literally relationship goals.
