As someone living in Korea and with a guy who is ex military. Maybe i can shine light on this. Do many want to join, heck no but its a matter or National pride. And even when they leave they are on reserve if Korea go to war. Two years training but even when you leave you do not leave. If you do not join the army you will be seen as not caring about your country. Is it strange thinking yes but there is a big proud feeling of nationality in Korea. I teach debate and the topic or being forced to join the army comes up. Yes boys are not happy but they will do it to train so they can protect their country. My boyfriend has to stay in shape just in case he is called back. In the meantime hes winning me cuddly toys by being a good snipper at archades. But just to say if he didn't fight back on the medical he would be perceived as weak and have lost a lot of sponsorship and tv deals. Image is everthing here.
