Hi! At the start of episode 30, at around the 8 minute mark, Jin Qi tells Lan Xiang that "His Majesty recently granted me this residence." From the original text, it can be translated as "His Majesty personally granted/gave me this residence". So he did not buy it, but it was given by the emperor. His grandfather had to give up their old residence when they left the capital because it was very expensive to maintain.

I saw the teasers for eps 37 & 38. The one with the reveal is for ep 38. But we'll find out in a few days. In any case, I'm glad it's coming soon 💕.

Just to add, Jin Qi's father had a lot of romantic "debts" or entanglements (风流债 feng liu zhai), as evidenced by the number of concubines he has, which caused his mother many griefs. But just like what @ctaksin said, Jin Qi is not biased against his half-siblings, which is a good thing. I'm just glad that he has a close relationship with his siblings and cousins.

Using that pen name is a big hint for those aware or know of the Shens. Let's see how it pans out.

And the Chinese title, Lan Xiang Ru Gu (兰香如故), is such a good play on words! I was like, "Ahh so that's the other meaning of the title!".

I like that Xiu Wan told Lan Xiang the backstory of Xiu Lai's mother, and the chaos that happened. It revealed another side of Jin Qi. Now we know why he is closer to his grandpa than his own father, and why his father seems biased and is often not happy with him.

They're running for 1st and 2nd place 😄. But based on Xiu Wan's flashback story, Xiu Lai's mom was their father and grandma's favorite and caused trouble in the Lin household, to the point that Jin Qi's mom had a miscarriage. Hence, Jin Qi was chasing his father with a big stick. It was not explicity mentioned what they did to Xiu Lai's mom after that. Maybe we'll find out in later episodes.

The scene where Lin Xiu Wan was holding some tree branches to hide herself while calling XLX, and then both sitting down using the tree branches to cover themselves, is quite funny. As if they will not be seen, when they only covered their upper bodies 😂.

In Ep 32, Lu Jian, Lin Xiu Lai's rascal of a husband, deserves that beating 👊! Both his parents are accomplices to Xiu Lai's domestic abuse. The mother-in-law is especially cruel. In one scene, she was standing outside (I think she was smirking) while her good-for-nothing son beat and kicked his wife. It was a bold step for both XLX and LJQ to take Xiu Lai from the Lu household by force, as it was not easy and simple during that time (as we shall see in the next episode). LJQ wants them to divorce, despite her 2nd aunt disagreeing initially 🤦‍♀️. Lin Xiu Wan has more sense and is more understanding than her mother!

In ep 31, I had expected XLX to use her chuiwan skill as a means to redeem Ji Er and Xiao Pu from ZXT. I love the surprised look on ZXT's face after XLX shot that ball into the hole 🏌‍♀️! However, I had not thought she would give her tips on how to keep her money as her own, in exhange for both women's indentures. But it makes sense since ZXT loves money 😄.

I'm glad that XLX asked LJQ for help to get resident cards for Ji Er, Xiao Pu and Ah Zhi. She realized there are some things that she can do on her own, but some where she needs his help and resources. This is a good start and I hope they get to do more things together. They can become a dynamic and powerful couple.

I'm so happy for Ji Er and Xiao Pu; they finally got their freedom! XLX and Ji Er's scenes after their reunion at Qing Yan Lou always tug at my heart. Their friendship has indeed gone through the tests and are now refined like silver or gold. Kudos to Liu Mei Han! She gave an excellent portrayal of Ji Er.

Ep 31 is such a good episode. There are many touching, insightful and memorable moments, complemented by great acting from Tang Song Yun, Liu Mei Han, Liu Xue Yi and the other actors.

If I remember correctly, he did not buy the house; the emperor gave it to him, or arranged for him to live there. But, I will check that part again in ep 30.

~ You said it so well 💯! True, LJQ has his flaws, but he also has many good qualities and had done things that show his integrity. I appreciate what he did after catching ZXT with another man. Instead of taking the harshest steps, he gave her and her family 3 options. Of course, her father chose the least destructive option, which benefited both sides and allowed the matter not to get out of hand, and it saved her reputation too.

Yes, the emperor is literally Ling Bu Yi and Cheng Shao Shang's matchmaker and biggest supporter 😂.

Yes ep 31 is such a great episode 👍💖! So many good, insightful and touching moments. We need to do a watch party lol 😂.

To some extent, both LJQ and XLX are not understanding each other well. They don't know each other's full story (at this point), and for us audiences who see the "whole" picture, this can be frustrating. But I see glimpses in the previews of succeeding eps that things will become clearer and there will be reveals 💕. Previews of eps 35 and 36 made me so curious and excited.
