If you’re referring to the scene where he slaps himself, that was actually improvised by HMH! It really shows not only his talent but also how deeply he was immersed in the character and how thoroughly he understood him. That was such a heartbreaking scene, it’s still so painful to watch, even now that I’ve watched and rewatched the drama so many times that I’ve lost count. That’s just how realistic his performance was 😭💔

The romance is little, but it’s very sweet and warm. The drama focuses more on found family, friendship, sismance, and strong bromance, with beautiful aesthetic and a fantastic ost. The relationships are developed so well that in the end you can root for the romance, the bromance, or both, like me lol.
I really love this light romance, respectful and tender. It is heartwarming, together with all the other different dynamics the characters have in this drama.

Vessels are born, and there is only one, like the goddess. They both exist to balance/control the forces of the worlds. The goddess is chosen by the token (or by the prev goddess?), while the vessel is just born.
We don't know who were the vessels before Zyz, only that a vessel must always exist, and when one dies, another must always be born. That is why Zyz forces himself to live in torment, to prevent anyone else from suffering as much as he does, or to ensure the next vessel isn't someone bad who may threaten the worlds. I don't think it necessarily has to be a great demon to be a vessel, any demon can be born as one when needed. Zyz was special probably for of a mix of factors, his personality at first, his interest in humans, his understanding of both races, and his desire for peace and balance between them. These things made him already a different demon on his own, even more so since he was one of the strongest, and on top of that the vessel.
About the fire, I do not remember any specific/explicit reference to the fact that it made Zyz more sensitive/weaker to malicious energy. At the beginning, I even completely forgot about that and only thought that the terrible pain LL caused him was what made him lose control when the malicious energy was strongher on that night. But since all the problems started from it, the idea that absorbing the fire caused Zyz to be weaker on red nights was a possible guess. We only know that, because Zyz was worried for LL he forgot about the red night, which suggests that he must be wary on those nights. And that Zyz had already lost control other time (without causing major incidents), as he said that thanks to the token, he had regained his consciousness earlier than usual. This means that in his 34000 years, either 1. he always loses control on those nights (but if he always did, he would have been more worried when dealing with the token spell with Wx) or, more probably 2. he only loses control sometimes with red moon (under particular emotional or psychological circumstances), or 3. he was referring to the time when he already had the fire +red moon (which means there was some years in between). 2-3 both together are possible in the case of the tragedy. Like red moon + emotion + fire=loss of control.
There's little info, so anything is possible. The fact that some time (even years) could have passed between LL leaving him and the incidents is just a theory as any other. Even about LL's wound, we know he will slowly die, but who knows how slowly.

I know people say that he chooses his scripts, but I think all decisions come with some restrictions. Not everything he picks is because he wants to, sometimes, it’s just what he has to do or the lesser evil. In this case, to think he chose to do a drama with all the work he needs to do for the concert seems a little exaggerated, even for his standards. And here we’re talking about half a drama, on youku platform, with a favored fl, possible VIP restrictions, and a new studio, with the only positive side of an interesting character (not to mention the risk he’s taking as the first bill in such a big production). In my opinion, his agency wants him to work on a drama, and since this is the only one that seems available to fit around the concert schedule, this is it. They really can’t just leave him to work on a normal rhythm.

Thinking about it, demon souls can cultivate, while human souls cannot, so they must be different. A spell that works on a human soul wouldn’t work on a demon soul, so I’d rule out the spell Zyz used when sacrificing himself for PJ's brother.
If YL were an inanimate object, or if his real form were separate from his demonic form, like LL with his pagoda tree, even with just a small amount of life left (since even LL was in bad condition) it might have been enough to use only a part of his original body to save him. (Zyz didn’t use a spell, it was just a piece of LL’s original form.)
But since YL is half-god, he probably only exists in the form he uses. In this case, only Zyc could have saved him, but he hadn’t mastered the technique yet, so he must feel guilty about it. Even so, the technique only worked on Zyz, who was bound by his blood, and on Ying Long, who was bound by his bones. So without a separate piece of YL’s body, even Zyc’s technique wouldn’t have worked. Lot of "ifs" and "maybes" lol, but basically, without a separate piece of the body, no technique or spell could have worked. And no one thought to take such precautionary measures😢
Maybe before YL’s death, Zyc didn’t even consider using BY technique. Only after losing him he thought to use it to save Zyz and not lose him too. 💔

Right, I forgot about that technique, but that was a human soul bound to an object. He probably had no way to come back to life, just to survive and remain like that. And selfless Zyz spent so much of his energy to help him 💔 They slowly weakened Zyz to save everyone, right and left.😭
But maybe a demon soul is different. The old fox demon was bound to a doll, but he didn’t revive or cultivate himself. In that case, though, maybe it was just his lingering feelings and not a part of his actual soul. Who knows? You learn the rules of this drama as it goes on, lol. There’s definitely a lot of material to think through.
As for the end he said he would always be with her, and that drop of blood in the contract was all that remained of him. 😭 He stayed there with her, as promised... then she left him and he fly to Zyc asking for help 🤣
