Just finished ep4 and I’m kind of on the fence about this one. The first case was mildly interesting. It seemed like too many things just fell (unconvincingly) conveniently into place for our detective. It was later addressed in ep3-4 but I still felt like there were not enough layers to the writing and the characters to make it compelling. It didn’t help that the comedy with the two sidekicks fell completely flat for me. Though tbf they grew on me later on. Generally, I felt ep3-4 were better than the first two, so I hope it keeps improving.
I really like the production and the history setup. Pretty happy they’re moving to another place for the next case. Definitely wouldn't say no to a sightseeing trip along the Tang borders:) Not a fan of the bgm though, too solemn for my taste. As for the main hero, I like that he’s not larger than life but rather humanly flawed. He’s observant but still susceptible to being tricked. Soooo I’m not gonna say it’s the drop-everything-and-watch-right-now kind of show, but it got me hooked enough to continue.
Well, I generally feel that anything goes in fandom, as long as it stays in fandom and doesn't negatively affect the actors/authors/etc. I might have agreed with your comment if this series didn't purposely include so many popular BL tropes. I mean they spent half an episode on the weirdest date ever. The show obviously invites people to ship and have fun with it. Besides, childhood friends/step brothers is such a common trope in bl that I find it rather mundane by now. I do however understand if it's something that bothers you personally. There is one trope that is a hard limit for me - bullying. It was here too (along with some gratuitous violence which I'm not a fan of either) and that's the reason why I personally can't ship these two.
I hate this series! It made me crave spicy beef 🍜 and I have no way of getting any atm.. This is full of clichés (please don't make them childhood friends😒) but also kind of uplifting. It put me in a good mood which was all I wanted. Just need to make sure I have something delicious to eat before starting next ep^^
17 episodes in: I love it! It took me a while to get into it. At first, the comedy seemed too silly and the characters clichéd. Feihua! Now I think the writing is superb, comedy a perfect shade of gold and I fell in love with all six of the mains=D I admire the writer for creating tight unpredictable mystery/espionage story arcs drenched with humour all while giving so much heart and substance to the characters.
I actually started this because I was craving good friendship vibes (after finishing a Tw series Oh no! Here Comes Trouble which you should definitely check out!!) and this is givinggg! Zhang Xingcheng is such a funny rascal. Bruce He as Yanei is hilariously over-the-top. I love Wang Kuan’s amused …. Ok they're all great lol. Give it a try!
I watched the uncut version on YouTube. It's free but geoblocked outside Europe I think. It's also on Youku and Gaga behind a paywall. Youku has the shorter TV version for free.
As for the ending... You chose to ask the one person here who didn't like it😁 Most people here would tell you it's a happy ending. I'd say it’s unresolved/confusing. It's very hard to understand what has happened if you haven't read the book. But don't let my words discourage you from watching! You'll miss out on a true gem:))
You're not alone. I also don't get it. I was hoping till the very last second that they would disregard the book,…
It erases nothing. I feel for Khun Yai!!😭 You know, I think it's the first reincarnation story I've seen in years. Maybe I've been subconsciously avoiding the premise… I’ll definitely check out the 2nd season! I absolutely loved this series too;)
Can't believe it's been almost three weeks since I've finished this series! It's been in my head every day. I noticed I have a crazy amount of screenshots from this drama. Ok, a whole lot of them are various shots of Yai looking at Jom;) Because those deserve to be appreciated! But I also really liked how they visually composed and framed a lot of the shots. There are some real stunners with the white billowy curtains, flower trees or sea of green outside shaping the frame. Lol with some episodes, I feel like a crazy tourist who keeps taking photos of everything, because it's so beautiful and you so badly want to capture the feeling it gives you°❀⋆.ೃ࿔*:・ I'm waiting (impatiently) for subs in my language to get done, before I rewatch the whole thing. Hope for all those poetic confessions, pillow talks and Jom’s rap song to hit different:))

Lol, I do mind. I need for sad endings to be firmly anchored in the story. In this case, I just fail to see the reason why they needed to give one to Khun Yai and Jom. But, I understand it's not your point:) I totally get how you feel. Every time I see a comment saying it's a happy ending my fingers itch to correct it😁 …which I don't do. Because I'm not mean;)
I haven't read the novel, so I can't comment on the plot. But if the story really involves Jom falling in love with two Yais just to lose them, and the two Yais falling in love with Jom just to lose him, that sounds a bit too melodramatic for my taste. If season 2 ever happens, I hope they change it or at least give us better explanation for everything that happens.
I'm very confused by people saying this has a happy ending. Am I missing something? I just finished watching it…
You're not alone. I also don't get it. I was hoping till the very last second that they would disregard the book, and let those two live out their lives together (in whatever timeline). I mean, they made me fall in love with that beautiful soul that is Khun Yai and get invested in their happiness for 12 long hours, just to make him a long gone memory at the end?! I honestly don't understand why they didn't go with a more ambiguous ending. At least allowing for a possibility that it was the original Khun Yai in the last scene. They didn't give us any explanations to the mystery anyway🤷
Strong is one way to put it😁 It's super weird and super cute. It's clear the writers wanted to play with bl tropes and had a lot of fun with it! But if you're asking me if it's romantic or platonic? For me it's the latter. But, well, who's gonna stop you from shipping whoever you want. Anyway, the friendship between the main trio is all shades of awesome (and goofy;) Watch it! It's a gem! The most entertained I've been all year.
