They did really good teaming up PYM and WHD. Their chemistry is so natural and their comedic timing really ease up the tense atmosphere. Wang Hedi's portrayal of Ran Fangxu, with his youthful innocence and persistence, was truly excellent.
The director seems very skilled. It doesn't try to be mysterious or deliberately scary; it's very natural. The visuals are well-shot and have a nostalgic feel. Picture quality is like a movie. I watched it while eating 🍿too! LOL

That’s a good question. From what I recall he did got a lot of books from the Dean of that Academy, which actually belongs to the Bureau. The Dean also used a technique to extract memories from criminals to confess to crimes. But they didn’t show where the book actually came from or if Xu Qian wrote it in Season 1.

The equivalent exchange is retrieving his body for XQA, and in return XQA to team up with him (he said Dafeng’s fortune belongs to them). He activated the mystifying spell to erase him so no one will look for him or remembers him. They showed XQA sending a book to Alchemist about how to extract souls, so it's implied that he will be fine.
