What was the princess getting out of this?? Why did they end up killing his family?

Looks like the ML is used to cheating men, seeing them in his gisaeng house everyday. It is understandable he would expect love not to last and to kinda offer her a way out. He told her he would neither cheat nor take a concubine, but accept her taking lovers. Unspoken part: he would also accept any kids not fathered by himself.

This is quite pragmatic, making sure she is never trapped and her sexual needs are always met. But why not find ways to work on their longterm relationship? And I guess divorce would mean less freedom than a husband looking the other way but what is HE getting out of it? Is he the biggest simp who does not believe in forever love or intending to kill the king???
